A new trailer for One Piece Odyssey shows that the game will launch on January 13, 2023, for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based RPG tying into the famous One Piece series, and will follow the Straw Hat crew as they explore the mysterious island of Waford. The game's story will be written by series author Eiichiro Oda, and will contain original events not seen in the manga.

One Piece, far from being just a manga series, has grown into a gargantuan media titan, having received tie-in movies, albums, and a long line of games ranging from Dynasty Warriors-esque beat-em-ups, to fighting games, to platformers. The most recently released game, One Piece: World Seeker, attempted open world exploration in the world of One Piece. Odyssey, which was announced as part of One Piece's 25th anniversary celebrations, is set to be a turn-based RPG, making it somewhat of a departure from the more action-oriented One Piece games that have been released as of late.

In a new trailer shown at the Tokyo Game Show 2022 by BANDAI NAMCO Europe, One Piece Odyssey showed off its story, involving the mysterious island of Waford, as well as several preorder bonuses, editions, and the game's release date of January 13, 2023. The trailer shows Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat crew washing up on the shore of Waford, where they meet a mysterious girl named Lim. Also shown at the Tokyo Game Shows was a 12-minute preview of the game's gameplay, which was previously discussed in a dev diary exploring the combat of Odyssey.

New One Piece Odyssey Trailer Shows Release Date And Preorder Bonuses

Alongside a preview of the game's setting and story, the new trailer also shows off preorder bonuses, which include in-game resources and pre-timeskip outfits for the Straw Hats, as well as the several editions of the game that will be available for purchase. Of note is the collector's edition of the game, which will include a figurine of Luffy and Lim, a collector's box, a steel case, and 3 special postcards showing imagery from the series. A small stinger also hints that Odyssey will delve into past arcs from the series proper, featuring what looks to be popular One Piece character Vivi.

The new trailer for One Piece Odyssey was shown at the Tokyo Game Show, alongside other announcements such as a potential teaser for a new game from Hideo Kojima, and while One Piece Odyssey shows promise in previews of its story and gameplay, it may have a few hurdles to overcome when it releases in 2023. Past One Piece games have garnered mixed reviews, with many being seen as low quality cash-grabs to bank on the series' huge popularity. If One Piece Odyssey wants to overcome that perception, it will have to be able to stand on its own merits.
