A new clip from Star Trek: Lower Decks released during the annual Star Trek Day shows a holodeck movie sequel with Ensign Brad Boimler. Ever since The Next Generation, Star Trek episodes featured on the holodeck have become mainstays of the franchise. They offer alternate stories that couldn't be told otherwise. Star Trek: Lower Decks already took advantage of this in season 1, episode 9 "Crisis Point" where Boimler was a reluctant participant in a holodeck movie.

In the episode, Boimler has created a holodeck program that exactly replicates the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos in order to prepare for an interview with Captain Freeman. Instead of allowing Boimler to continue with his plan, Ensign Beckett Mariner alters the parameters of the program and turns it into a Star Trek movie the main characters can interact with. From having familiar music, flying Star Trek title fonts they need to duck under, and taking a hysterically long look at the Cerritos, the episode has fun satirizing and making callbacks to many of the Star Trek movies.

The new Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 episode will be titled "Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus." When the episode is released on Thursday, October 13, it offers another chance to dive into a movie where the actions of the main characters don't have any consequences in the outside world, letting them live out their fantasies. Check out the clip from Paramount+ below:

While in the first "Crisis Point" episode, Boimler was reluctant to take part in the movie, he's now an active participant. His wish fulfillment holodeck movie finds him as the Captain of his own ship. Throughout Star Trek: Lower Decks, Boimler has longed for a chance to Captain a ship and move up in the ranks of Starfleet, so it makes sense this will be explored in the episode. When his holodeck ship, the U.S.S. Wayfarer arrives, it is an exact recreation of when Captain Riker appeared on the U.S.S. Titan to save the Cerritos in the Star Trek: Lower Decks season 1 finale, providing a fun callback. Boimler's ship has not been featured in a Star Trek show before and has its own unique registry number, again showing the episode will have a lot to offer longtime viewers.

What isn't seen in the clip is what role Boimler's Star Trek: Lower Deck's fellow Ensigns are playing in the movie. The first movie found Boimler on the opposite side of Mariner, Tendi, and Rutherford as they overtook the Cerritos. Considering Boimler has shown a disregard for those around him in the past to get where he wants, it'll be interesting to see how he acts when he's finally in command. With Boimler appearing to be the main protagonist in this movie, it's unknown how his friends support him and how much they will want to play along with his holodeck program.
