A trailer is coming soon for Chaos Walking, a new science fiction film starring Tom Holland of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Daisy Ridley of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, among other films. Chaos Walking is an adaptation of the 2008 novel by Patrick Ness, titled The Knife of Never Letting Go. The young adult sci-fi movie has been in development since at least 2016, but the film’s release was delayed by almost two years and underwent extensive reshoots.
Now, finally, Chaos Walking will be making its way to the big screen. Lionsgate began publicly marketing the film just a few days ago, releasing a stylistic Chaos Walking poster for the movie featuring Holland and Ridley. The poster notably does not include a release date, though the current plan is for the film to release in January 2021.
The news of the upcoming Chaos Walking trailer came as part of a Twitter conversation between the official Lionsgate account and the official Chaos Walking account. These conversational Twitter stunts have become common events in social media marketing, with the brands attempting to personify themselves and encouraging viewers to interact with them. The thread starts with Lionsgate pretending to “check in” on how Chaos Walking is doing, and concludes with the film studio mentioning that they’ll be dropping the trailer sometime this week. The Chaos Walking account also makes some humorous references to the many delays the film has experienced, claiming they’ve been asleep for “84 years” (a reference to the Titanic line that has become a popular meme). IGN has since confirmed the Chaos Walking trailer will release Thursday, Nov. 19 at 9am ET. You can see the thread below.

The big question that fans are hoping this Chaos Walking trailer will answer is exactly when the film will be released. The poster unveiled a few days ago did not include a release date for Chaos Walking, which could have been a bit frustrating for fans that have been waiting years for this adaptation. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic also raises some questions about the status of the film, as several other movies have been delayed as a direct result of the disease outbreak.
But whenever this movie does hit theaters, it will inevitably be a big deal for both Ridley and Holland, who are beginning to move on to other roles beyond the action franchises that defined them. Holland especially is attempting to expand his portfolio, as he is set to appear in three different franchise films in 2021. When it does finally release, Chaos Walking will be the next big step in this young actor’s career, and will hopefully have been worth the wait.
