Michael Dorn and Patrick Stewart reunite in Star Trek: Picard season 3, as Worf and Jean-Luc Picard join forces once more in a new image from the upcoming final season. Dorn first portrayed the franchise's first Klingon main character in Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994, before reprising the role in later seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and across four theatrically released films. Worf was Starfleet's first Klingon officer and served under Picard aboard the USS Enterprise-D under Picard, achieving the rank of Lt. Commander before being reassigned to Deep Space 9 following the ship's destruction.
First revealed by TV Line, the image from Star Trek: Picard's final season sees Dorn act alongside Stewart on-screen for the first time since Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002. In the image, Picard reunites with Worf onboard an unknown starship, with Worf appearing aged and now dressed in traditional Klingon clothing rather than typical Starfleet uniforms. Everything We Know About Star Trek: Picard Season 3
With season 3 bringing the story of Star Trek: Picard to a close, the final season is set to be a swansong to the TNG era of the franchise, giving the returning cast of the original show closure. While certain characters including Will Wheaton's Wesley Crusher will not appear in season 3, the show will not only reunite the key crew of the Enterprise-D, but will feature notable TNG supporting characters including Daniel Davis' Moriarty. Furthermore, showrunner Terry Matalas has teased that the show's production will also feature throwbacks to Star Trek: The Next Generation, with Matalas emphasizing that Stephen Barton and Frederik Wiedmann's score would evoke the music of the original series.
However, while Star Trek: Picard season 3 will see the return of the beloved TNG crew and provide those characters with a fitting conclusion, many main cast members of Picard seasons 1 and 2 will not be returning for the show's final season. While Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Orla Brady will return to portray Seven of Nine, Raffi Musiker, and Laris, Santiago Cabrera, Evan Evagoria, Isa Briones, and Alison Pill confirmed they wouldn't return following the conclusion of season 2 despite being series regulars until season 3. When explaining the absence of season 1 and 2's main cast in the final season, Matalas explained that budgetary constraints and the timing of season 3's production made it difficult for the previous main cast to return.
Star Trek: Picard season 3 is shaping up to be a celebration of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which can provide longtime Star Trek viewers with a fitting conclusion to the crew of the Enterprise-D's story. As such, the first teaser image of Picard and Worf's reunion is sure to instantly fill dedicated fans with excitement at seeing how the beloved character has changed since his last on-screen adventure. And while Worf's Star Trek return may reveal that the character has grown and dedicated himself to pacifistic ideals that contrast with typical Klingon ideals, Dorn's return is sure to excite longtime fans who may have missed the character's on-screen presence.
