Wonder Woman 2 director Patty Jenkins shares that they are about to start filming the movie "shockingly soon." After a job well-done helming 2017's Wonder Woman (the most critically successful DCEU film to date), the filmmaker is back to helm the much-anticipated sequel that will see the return of Diana Prince back in the fold, this time with a brand new adventure.

Not much is known regarding the specific plot details of the movie, but as recently confirmed by Jenkins, Wonder Woman 2 will bring the Amazonian Princess at the height of the Cold War (which Screen Rant first reported last year). Aside from Gal Gadot returning as the titular heroine, Chris Pine is also reportedly appearing in the sequel, but it's currently unknown how considering that his character, Steve Trevor, died in the original movie. Meanwhile, newcomers such as Kristen Wiig, who will play villain Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal, whose role hasn't been confirmed yet, are also set to debut in the follow-up movie.

Catching up with Variety during Cannes Film Festival, Jenkins offered an update with regard to the much-anticipated the DC movie. While she didn't reveal anything plot-related (as expected), she shared that they are on the verge of beginning shooting Wonder Woman 2.

The latest tidbit from Jenkins is on par with earlier speculations that Wonder Woman sequel will begin principal photography this coming summer. Back in October, reports surfaced that the sequel is set to start filming this June, but with everything that has transpired with regard to the DCEU since then, it wasn't outside the realm of possibility that the changes might've affected the production for the forthcoming film. It may not be much, but it's nice to know that the film is still sticking to its initial schedule.

Comparing the sequel's timeline to its predecessor, Jenkins and her team won't have the same luxury of time that they had with Wonder Woman. The first movie's principal photography lasted for six months from November 2015 to May 2016 which allowed them to do additional filming in November 2016. This left them plenty of time for post-production for its June 2017 release date. The sequel, however, just has a year and a half to finish the project, but with most of the team members returning, it shouldn't be a problem as most of them have already established working relationships with each other.

As Wonder Woman 2 begins production very soon, fans can expect more details emerging with regard to the film in the following months. If Warner Bros. and DC even allow it, they may have something for fans with regard to the sequel come San Diego Comic-Con this July to boost up their Hall H panel which will expectedly also feature James Wan's Aquaman and David F. Sandberg's Shazam!
