Seth Rogen has found his next project, agreeing to write a script based on the life of Scotty Bowers, sometimes referred to as the "Hollywood Hustler." Bowers' life was previously the focus of a 2017 documentary directed by Matt Tyrnauer, Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood. The positive feedback from the film and a life ripe for further inspection made a narrative tale a certainty.

Deadline reports Rogen will pen the script for the film, along with his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg. Luca Guadagnino, best known for directing and producing Call Me by Your Name in 2017, will serve as the director for the movie. Searchlight Pictures is the studio behind the effort, with Point Grey Pictures (founded by Rogen and Goldberg) and Tyrnauer himself among the other producers.

Bowers passed away in October 2019, but fascination surrounding his exploits of being a gay pimp in Hollywood for decades has continued to interest the entertainment industry. In Ryan Murphy's recent Netflix miniseries, Hollywood, Dylan McDermott played a character loosely based on Bowers, portraying Ernie West, a pimp who operates from a gas station, like Bowers reportedly did. McDermott was recently nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his portrayal.

Rogen is best known for his acting, but he has served as the writer for plenty of great comedies, including Superbad, Pineapple Express, and Sausage Party. His most recent film writing credit, however, came way back in 2016 for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. The life of Scotty Bowers is the perfect material to enable Seth Rogen to get back behind the pen.
