The first trailer for Denis Villeneuve's Dune will arrive in August. Frank Herbert's iconic 1965 novel has been adapted multiple times before, but none have managed to properly translate the expansive sci-fi world. Now, Villeneuve will attempt to do what others have failed at in creating a better adaptation, and expectations are certainly high. Dune takes place on the desert planet Arrrakis, where the Atreides family rules and protects its highly valuable resources. The impressive cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin.

According to the Danish theater Palads Teatret (via Trailer-Track), the very first trailer for Dune will arrive next month in August. It will be featured in theaters alongside the re-release of Inception, which is currently slated for August 21 in the United States. Before this, however, both Inception and Dune's trailer will debut in select countries overseas on August 12. The second trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 will also reportedly be included.

Considering how Dune's release is gradually getting closer, this doesn't come as much of a surprise. Had the pandemic not effectively erased the summer movie season, Dune's trailer might have already been released by now. Still, though, releasing it in August will still give Warner Bros. ample time to really start promoting Dune in earnest. It's been a while since the first images were unveiled, so audiences need something new in order to get excited for the film.
Dune is definitely one of the biggest question marks of 2020, as many are curious to see how well it will perform. There's a definite interest in Dune thanks to its starry cast and Villeneuve's track record with sci-fi films, but big budget genre films don't always perform well among general audiences. Perhaps a well-edited, buzzy trailer will be enough to give Dune the boost it needs to capture people's attention. While it isn't quite clear when the trailer will actually be released online, it can be assumed that it won't be too long after it arrives in theaters. Therefore, audiences won't have to wait much longer before their first look at some Dune footage.
