A Morbius video with new footage reveals the living vampire's wall-jumping ability, which is more like Venom than Spider-Man. Jared Leto stars as Morbius the Living Vampire, a Marvel Comics anti-hero with some vampiric powers like super strength and speed - as well as echolocation. Leto's character in the upcoming Sony movie is Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist with a rare blood disease who accidentally turns himself into a pseudo-vampire in an effort to cure himself. Part of Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters, Morbius joins Venom in the studio's movie franchise featuring Marvel characters to which they still own the film rights. Morbius was originally set to be released in June, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony pushed the film's release date to March 2021.

However, this release date change was made after the first Morbius movie trailer debuted earlier this year, which confirmed a connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man franchise. The trailer featured Michael Keaton as Vulture, after he was introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as some Spider-Man graffitti that seemingly references the Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scenes. Since Morbius and Venom are part of the same universe, the trailer effectively confirmed Sony's Spider-Man offshoot movies are part of the MCU in some way. And now a new Morbius video offers a look at how the living vampire's wall-jumping ability is similar to Venom's.

On Twitter, the fan account Morbius Updates posted a video taken from the scoring of Morbius, which features monitors playing bits of footage from the film - presumably the parts of the movie they're scoring. At about the 40 second mark, a Morbius video clip shows someone leaping and swinging from building to building. Check out the full video below.

While it may be tempting to believe this could be a Spider-Man cameo in Morbius given the brief look at someone swinging as if from a web, it's much more likely to be Morbius himself. And considering the next snippet of footage shows a figure leaping from one building to another and sticking on the walls, it would seem that Morbius' abilities more closely resemble Venom in that he's strong enough to leap between buildings and doesn't use webs to get around. Of course, because the footage is so low-res and it's tough to make out exactly who the character is depicted in the clip, it's possible it's another character besides Morbius.

Still, although Morbius and Venom may be technically set within the MCU due to their connections to Tom Holland's Spider-Man, it's unlikely Marvel Studios would allow their version of the wall-crawler to appear in Morbius. After all, Marvel reportedly told Sony to cut Holland's Peter Parker cameo from Venom, so it's clear that Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios folks are protective of the character. Since that likely rules out a Spider-Man cameo, the next possibility is a Venom cameo. While that's slightly more possible since Sony has complete control over Venom, it seems much more likely that this footage features Morbius.

Once the footage is available in better quality - whether in a trailer or the movie itself - it will be easier to see how similar the vampire's wall-jumping abilities are to Venom. It would no doubt be best if Morbius was visually distinctive from Sony's other Marvel heroes, but Leto's character being somewhat reminiscent of Venom and Spider-Man may also make it more appealing to fans of those characters. With Morbius currently still set for a March 2021 release date, hopefully it won't be long before more official, high definition footage is unveiled from the Sony Marvel movie.
