The Munsters are making their way back to the screen in the first trailer for the new movie. Rob Zombie, better known for his work in the horror genre with the likes of the Firefly trilogy and Halloween remakes, is at the helm for the Munsters movie, directing and producing a script he wrote. Zombie's involvement with The Munsters movie was first reported in early 2021, with the filmmaker confirming he was hired to adapt the sitcom to film a few months later.
Zombie has recruited a number of frequent collaborators for the cast of The Munsters movie, including wife Sheri Moon starring as Lily Munster, Richard Brake as new character Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman, Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa and Dee Wallace. The film will also see a number of first-time Zombie collaborators, some of whom include Sylvester McCoy, Lost alum Jorge Garcia, Catherine Schell and Elvira actress Cassandra Peterson. Filming on The Munsters ran from June 2021 to July 2022 and now audiences are getting a look at the long-awaited movie reboot.
After plenty of behind-the-scenes teases for the film, Universal Pictures has released the official The Munsters trailer. The video offers a proper look at Rob Zombie's movie reboot of the classic sitcom, now in its new colorful presentation. Check out the new trailer below:

The official Munsters trailer finally gives a better idea of what audiences can expect from Rob Zombie's movie reboot, namely with its premise. The video seems to point towards Zombie taking a prequel approach to adapting the classic sitcom, showing the creation of Herman by Richard Brake's Dr. Wolfgang with his assistant, Jorge Garcia's Floop, as well as how he and Sheri Moon's Lily first fell in love, much to the chagrin of Daniel Roebuck's Grandpa. Though The Munsters trailer seems to set up Grandpa as a potential antagonist for the film, the latter portion of the footage shows him moving to the classic Mockingbird Lane home with Herman and Lily, seemingly indicating his getting over his distaste for Herman at some point in the movie.
Not only have audiences been wondering what story approach Rob Zombie would take to the sitcom, they'd also been questioning the seeming absence of Lily and Herman's werewolfish son Eddie and teenage niece Marilyn. Their absences now seem to be cleared up with The Munsters trailer's indication of a prequel story, making it likely that the two younger characters wouldn't make an appearance until late in the film or a potential sequel. Only time will tell when Zombie's The Munsters movie releases this September.
