Paul Bettany

He may be familiar to fans these days as the MCU’s Vision, but Paul Bettany has played a wide range of characters that would enable him to bring something truly unique to the Labyrinth sequel. He is not only a gifted performer, but also a highly adaptable one, portraying everything from romantic leads to comedic roles, as well as both heroes and villains. Having experience with so many different types of parts alone makes him a rather exceptional choice for the Goblin King, plus he could certainly look the part.

Bettany’s Vision will soon be resurrected for Disney+’s WandaVision, but the actor has appeared in films as varied as Master and Commander, A Beautiful Mind and Solo: A Star Wars Story. His charisma and charm would serve him well in the part of Jareth, which requires both. Plus, he’s married to Jennifer Connelly, who played the teenage protagonist, Sarah, in the original movie. No word yet on whether or not she will be reprising the role for the sequel though.

Jennifer Connelly

If Jennifer Connelly was to return for the Labyrinth sequel, wouldn’t it be cool if she did so as Jareth’s successor? Obviously, she could also come back as the one to defeat the Goblin King (or Queen) once again. However, it might be a more interesting narrative choice if she had instead become the villain of the piece. This would flip the script on what the audience was expecting, but still make sense within the context of the original story. It would also give the actress some compelling material to draw from.

Labyrinth made Connelly a star, but in the years since she has built up an extensive resume in film, appearing in movies such as Dark City, Requiem for a Dream and A Beautiful Mind, for which she won an Oscar. Although the actress can currently be seen in the Snowpiercer TV show, it’s been quite some time since she’s had a film role truly worthy of her immense talent. The new Labyrinth movie could give her that opportunity.
