Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – Every Update You Need To Know

    Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
    Release Date: June 22, 2018
Cast: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, James Cromwell, Geraldine Chaplin, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Ted Levine, Kevin Lane, and Jeff Goldblum.
    Director: J.A. Bayona
    Writers: Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM HAS A BIG RETURNING HEROES (INCLUDING JEFF GOLDBLUM)

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is very much a Jurassic World 2, and so the big stars will be back for sure. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are reprising their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing respectively, and coming along with them is B.D. Wong, who is returning as Dr. Henry Wu. Wong played Wu in Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park film and then became the only original cast member to reprise his role in 2015’s Jurassic World. This time, however, Wong will also be joined by Jeff Goldblum, who will have a small role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World 2. This marks the first time in 21 years – since Spielberg’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park released in 1997 – that Goldblum will be playing the famed chaotician.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM’S NEW CHARACTERS

In addition to all the returning cast members, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also features a healthy dose of new characters. James Cromwell stars as Benjamin Lockwood, who was John Hammond’s former partner in developing the original Jurassic Park dinosaurs, with Ted Levine playing Ken Wheatley and Rafe Spall playing Eli Mills. Then, there’s Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda, who play Franklin Webb and Zia Rodriguez, respectively – two characters who work for Claire’s Dinosaur Protection Group. Geraldine Chaplin and Toby Jones also star in Fallen Kingdom, but their character names and descriptions haven’t been revealed.

WHAT JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM’S STORY IS ABOUT

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the second installment in Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World trilogy, yet it’s the fifth Jurassic movie overall. It takes place four years after the events of 2015’s Jurassic World, with Claire requesting Owen’s help in aiding her Dinosaur Protection Group in getting the dinosaurs off Isla Nublar after a volcanic eruption threatens yet another dinosaur extinction. During their rescue mission, however, Claire and Owen uncover “a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times,” according to Jurassic World 2‘s official synopsis.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM HAS 2 TRAILERS

The first trailer for Jurassic World released over Thanksgiving in the U.S. in 2014 – and that eventually led to an impressive opening weekend for the film. So, Universal Pictures opted to employ a similar marketing strategy for the sequel. A six-second clip debuted on November 22, 2017, highlighting Owen Grady’s relationship with Blue. Then, the first Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer released two weeks later on December 7. A second trailer for Fallen Kingdom was shown during Super Bowl 52 in February 2018, giving off a more suspenseful vibe. Universal will release the third and presumably final Jurassic World 2 trailer release on April 18.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM HAS A TEASER POSTER

To get fans excited for Jurassic World 2, Universal debuted the first Fallen Kingdom teaser poster one year prior to the movie’s release. The poster was similar to that of Jurassic World and past Jurassic movies but the biggest tease was the tagline at the bottom: “Life finds a way“, an edited version of Dr. Ian Malcolm’s iconic quote from Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. Moreover, the logo itself is more cracked compared to Jurassic World‘s teaser poster. An official theatrical poster hasn’t released yet, but Universal did put out key art for the film in a licensing magazine in 2017, which teased the possible return of Jurassic World‘s Indominus Rex.

HOW JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM CONNECTS TO PAST JURASSIC FILMS

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom continues the story that was set up in Jurassic World but has connections to the original Jurassic Park trilogy as well. In addition to bringing back Dr. Henry Wu, Fallen Kingdom sees the return of Dr. Ian Malcolm as well as the introduction of Benjamin Lockwood, who was one of John Hammond’s original partners at InGen. Furthermore, considering that the film’s official synopsis states that the main characters uncover a conspiracy, it’s possible that the story may eventually connect to some of InGen’s plans from The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

J.A. BAYONA DIRECTED JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM

Safety Not Guaranteed filmmaker Colin Trevorrow directed 2015’s Jurassic World but chose not to return for the sequel, though he did still co-write the screenplay. Instead, Universal and the rest of the movie’s producers hired A Monster Calls‘ director J.A. Bayona to helm the sequel. Bayona officially signed on to direct Jurassic World 2 in April 2016, and he’s taking the franchise in a much darker direction, judging by past his comments comparing his sequel to beloved sequel films such as The Empire Strikes Back and The Wrath of Kahn.

COLIN TREVORROW & DEREK CONNOLLY WROTE JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM

Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly co-wrote the screenplay for Jurassic World and they both returned to write the script for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. This time, however, the story is meant to be more scary and suspenseful compared to the previous installment. Moreover, the script incorporates more use of animatronics since the pair had become accustomed to the technology on the last film.

JURASSIC WORLD’S NEW DINOSAUR IS THE INDORAPTOR

Jurassic World introduced genetically-modified hybrid dinosaurs, starting with the Indominus Rex. It was created using a mixture of DNA from dinosaurs such as the Tyrannosaurus, Giganotosaurus, and Velociraptor, among others, which were then augmented with DNA from tree frogs and cuttlefish, thereby giving the dinosaur incredible capabilities. That’s something Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is looking to continue with the Indoraptor – a new Velociraptor with black skin and yellow markings.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – Every Update You Need To Know (continue 2)

JURASSIC WORLD 3 RELEASES IN JUNE 2021

Shortly after Jurassic World released in 2015 and broke all sorts of box office records, it was revealed that Colin Trevorrow and Universal Pictures would move forward with their plans for a Jurassic World trilogy. The sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is slated to hit theaters in June 2018, with the untitled Jurassic World 3 releasing on June 11, 2021 – six years after the first movie.

Steven Spielberg confirmed Trevorrow will direct Jurassic World 3 after the former Star Wars: Episode IX filmmaker opted not to return to the director’s chair for Fallen Kingdom. Trevorrow will once again co-write the screenplay with Derek Connolly, but this time they will be joined by Emily Carmichael. Furthermore, Spielberg will executive produce the third installment with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley.

JURASSIC WORLD 2 SETS UP JURASSIC WORLD 3

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the middle chapter in Universal’s Jurassic World trilogy, which means it bears the burden of continuing a previously established storyline while also setting up a third installment. Don’t worry, though – this isn’t “Part 1 of 2”; Colin Trevorrow says that, Fallen Kingdom doesn’t end on a cliffhanger nor does it have a definitive ending like past Jurassic films, although it does end in such a way that audiences will want to know what happens in Jurassic World 3.

JURASSIC WORLD 2 HAS AN ‘INSANE’ ACTION SEQUENCE

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is meant to take the series back to its roots with suspense and horror, but the film’s cast and crew have been teasing an “insane” action sequence for the sequel. The sequence occurs about midway through the movie, which may be the underwater action scene Kevin Lane had teased. Jurassic World introduced the aquatic dinosaur Mosasaurus, so it’s possible the insane underwater action sequence could include that animal.
