Universal debuts new Nope footage highlighting director Jordan Peele's most ambitious horror movie yet following 2017's Get Out and 2019's Us. Coming to theaters this summer, Nope revolves around the residents of a lonely gulch in inland California, mainly ranch owners James and Jill Haywood, who bear witness to a series of unexplained events that appear to be extraterrestrial in origin and are subsequently tormented by a mysterious unidentified flying object. Peele once again writes, directs, and produces the horror film for Universal Pictures under his Monkeypaw Productions banner.

Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya reunites with Peele on Nope to lead the cast as James Haywood alongside Keke Palmer as Jill, co-owner of the ranch. The Walking Dead alum Steven Yeun also stars in a prominent role alongside Michael Wincott, Brandon Perea, Donna Mills, Jennifer Lafleur, Andrew Patrick Ralston, Keith David, Terry Notary, Wrenn Schmidt, and Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira in supporting roles. Nope's marketing campaign has kept its cards incredibly close to its chest, carefully teasing the film's inciting incident and showcasing its fusion of Western and alien invasion elements.

Universal Pictures recently released a look at Nope via its YouTube channel. The featurette, titled "A Cinematic Event," begins with a look at Eadweard Muybridge's galloping horse, one of the earliest examples of motion photography from 1878, before transitioning to Kaluuya's character riding a horse in modern-day California. The video also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film as Peele calls Nope the most "ambitious a cinematic event" of his career via voice-over. Check out the new Nope footage below:

The featurette does include some new Nope footage, including shots of Kaluuya's character riding a horse and an epic sandstorm that appears to engulf Palmer's character, which will surely be welcome sights for Peele fans. However, the footage does not contain any glimpses of the film's cosmic threat, though a recent Nope trailer revealed the first proper look at the movie's gigantic UFO. Regardless, there is still a significant veil of secrecy surrounding Nope and at this point, many of the sci-fi horror film's biggest secrets will likely stay protected until it premieres in theaters on July 22, which is exactly the way Peele wants it.

If Peele's promise bears out, Get Out and Us should prove to be mere warmups for the ambitious cinematic event that Nope is expected to be. Based on this new featurette alone, the film appears to contain more stunts and effects, both CGI and practical, than his two previous horror outings combined. Peele is also known for providing social commentary with his horror films, and Nope is expected to raise the stakes in that department as well.
