Game of Thrones Promo Poster Teases Final Season Next Year
A new promo poster for Game of Thrones teases the final season coming in 2019. HBO’s critically-acclaimed fantasy TV series – based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series – is nearing its end with a truncated eighth and final season. Because the season is set primarily in the wintertime, the season’s production schedule was delayed to film during the winter. And so, Game of Thrones‘ final season was also delayed until 2019.
Game of Thrones season 8 is currently filming and will consist of only six episodes, which is one episode shorter than season 7’s seven-episode length and four episodes shorter than every other season. However, some of season 8’s episodes might be feature-length. And that number is clearly enough for producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to conclude the story. While it may be some time before the first look and first trailer for Game of Thrones season 8 debuts, that hasn’t stopped HBO from marketing the upcoming the final episodes by reminding people that the series won’t be returning in 2018 and that season 8 is definitely the show’s final season.
Collider revealed the first promo poster for Game of Thrones season 8, which will be showcased at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas in May. As with most promo posters, HBO’s poster for the series’ final season is minimalistic. Of course, the thing that stands out the most in the poster is that it reaffirms the final season coming in 2019. But what’s also interesting is the inclusion of the coat of arms for the last three great houses left standing: Stark, Targaryen, and Lannister. Take a look:
HBO first premiered Game of Thrones in 2011, and it’s been quite a journey for fans – for those who have and haven’t read the books. After all, since Martin is still working on his latest book, the series was forced to overtake the source material and conclude the story on its own. But, after all this time, the series’ cast and crew members feel that it’s time for Game of Thrones to end. Any number of things can happen in the show’s final six episodes, but in the end, someone will need to sit upon the throne and reign supreme over Westeros. Of course, it’s also possible that the White Walkers could win, and no one will be left alive to rule over the seven kingdoms.
While the mainline Game of Thrones series will ultimately conclude in 2019, HBO is still planning on expanding the world with one or more prequel shows. The network isn’t guaranteeing that a Game of Thrones prequel will happen, but they aren’t ready to let go of the property just yet.
Game of Thrones season 8 premieres in 2019 on HBO.
