The Marvel Cinematic Universe is suffering due to the lack of Deadpool in their roster, Ryan Reynolds jokes. It's been a little over a year since Disney acquired Fox's TV and movie assets resulting in Marvel Studios regaining the character rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and their tie-in characters - among those is the Merc with a Mouth, whom the actor has been playing since 2009, though his rebooted version launched in 2016. That said, Kevin Feige and his team are still mum about how they're going to incorporate these new players into their established universe and when fans might see that happening.

With that, many are waiting for a proper update. MCU's confirmed slate runs until 2022, so it might take a while before any of these heroes join the franchise. There is excitement over the addition of these new key players for varying reasons, but with Deadpool not being rebooted for the MCU, many are more interested in learning when the Merc with a Mouth returns on the big screen for Deadpool 3. The character's creator, Rob Liefeld has been open about his disappointment with any movement from the threequel, and now in a newly emerged statement, Reynolds comments on the matter.

Feige reportedly hosted a presentation at Marvel Studios' summit earlier this year that didn't include plans for any kind of X-Men film. When asked for a comment by EW, Reynolds referenced Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola's critique of the MCU by saying: "I agree with Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola that Marvel films suffer from an alarming lack of Deadpool."

For context, Scorsese came out late last year and called the MCU "not cinema." This has become a topic of conversation in Hollywood for a while with other figures sharing their thoughts. Fans online, on the other hand, also had their own discussions about whether or not the director's sentiments have merit. Subsequently, Coppola backed his fellow Italian-American filmmaker reigniting the controversy. Now, everyone seems to have just agreed to disagree on the matter, but Reynolds, who's known for his sense of humor and penchant for edgy jokes used the scandal to evade giving a serious answer to the pressing question.

As for when Deadpool will actually make his MCU debut, it's difficult to tell looking at the franchise's jam-packed release slate in the next few years. For what it's worth, Reynolds revealed he had talks with Marvel Studios regarding the future of his character, so it's safe to say that he has an idea of a timeframe for Deadpool 3, but obviously he can't divulge specific plans. It's also possible it was intentional that Feige's summit presentation didn't include any X-Men film so as not to distract from their announced roster of movies, not to mention TV shows for Disney+. This doesn't mean, however, that they're not setting up the X-Men's eventual arrival in the franchise. The MCU is known for playing the long game, but given it's currently in a transition phase, it only makes sense that they're being careful with what they're announcing in case there are some changes in their plans down the road.
