This March, Doctor Strange returns to the Marvel Universe, and the publisher has released a new, psychedelic trailer for his forthcoming title. The past year has been one of the most turbulent in the life of Doctor Strange, following on the heels of his death, but now he has returned to the land of the living, ready to reclaim the title of Sorcerer Supreme. And now, ahead of Strange’s epic return to glory, Marvel has released a new trailer for Doctor Strange #1, featuring new and unseen artwork.

Released by Marvel Entertainment's YouTube channel, the trailer gives readers their best look yet at the new series, which will be written by Jed MacKay, drawn by Pasqual Ferry and colored by Andy MacDonald. Not only does Doctor Strange figure prominently into the trailer, but Clea as well. Clea took over the role of Sorcerer Supreme while Doctor Strange was dead, protecting the title from evildoers like Doctor Doom. The trailer shows Doctor Strange interacting with a number of other Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man, Daredevil, She-Hulk and even Doctor Doom; Black Cat, who in recent years has become one of Strange’s uneasy allies, can be seen as well.

A New Era Arrives for Doctor Strange

While the trailer doesn't give details on the series’ plot, it did serve as a showcase for Pasqual Ferry’s psychedelic artwork, and seems to imply some kind of mass mystical disaster will overtake New York, dragging the city's vigilantes into a conflict only Strange can end.

This new series serves as a capstone to what has been one of the most tumultuous eras in Doctor Strange’s nearly 60-year history - and it started with his death. After being murdered by Kaecilus, Clea ascended to the role of Sorcerer Supreme and Strange returned as the Harvestman, working on behalf of Death. Once Clea and Strange vanquished the Blasphemy Cartel, Death released Strange from his Harvestman obligations, freeing him to return to the land of the living full time. Now, Marvel is celebrating Doctor Strange's return with a new series - and a new trailer.

Doctor Strange At His Psychedelic Best

Pasqual Ferry’s artwork, as seen in this trailer, is psychedelic, which is fitting for Doctor Strange. Strange was co-created by the legendary Steve Ditko, an artist noted for his trippy and surreal stories. The Sorcerer Supreme’s earliest stories, drawn by Ditko, set the stage not only for the rest of the character’s adventures, but the entire magical side of the Marvel Universe as well. Doctor Strange’s best stories often involve combat on the astral plane or in other dimensions, or feature him fighting against truly horrific monsters - and the best are imbued with psychedelic elements. Ferry’s art continues this tradition.

The question remains of who exactly will be Sorcerer Supreme. Clea currently holds the title, but will Doctor Strange take it back? Or could they hold the title jointly - something which has never been done before? Doctor Strange will be making his return this March, and a new trailer showcases the book’s psychedelic art.
