House of the Dragon's opening credits in the Succession style might just be better than the actual opening. When the highly-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series premiered this year on August 21 on HBO, viewers were puzzled that it didn't include an opening credits sequence. The next week, House of the Dragon episode 2 would showcase its new title sequence depicting blood streaming through Old Valyria. However, some viewers were still upset that House of the Dragon opted to reuse the Game of Thrones theme song composed by Ramin Djawadi rather than premiering something new.

Now, a fan has reimagined House of the Dragon's opening credits sequence in the style of Succession, which might be better than the original opening. Shared by @ASOiafsource on Twitter, the reimagined House of the Dragon opening uses Succession's main title theme composed by Nicholas Britell, along with grainy and static footage to replicate the visual style of Succession's intro. Why The House of the Dragon Theme In Succession Style Works So Well

The House of the Dragon theme in Succession style is arguably better than the show's actual opening. First off, it makes great use of Britell's epic main title theme for Succession, which corrects House of the Dragon's issue of recycling the same - albeit iconic - Game of Thrones theme song. Instead of following blood running through a model of Old Valyria, the reimagined House of the Dragon theme features some of the show's many Targaryen characters, such as King Viserys (Paddy Considine), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and Princess Rhaenyra (Mily Alcock), hinting at the familial tension and conflict that is crucial to the show.

Other than both being on HBO, the House of the Dragon and Succession mashup is a match made in heaven, as both shows revolve around the central premise of succession. House of the Dragon, which is based on A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood, revolves around who will succeed King Viserys on the Iron Throne, a question that eventually leads to the devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons. Similarly, much of Succession's intrigue is based on who will succeed Logan Roy (Brian Cox) as head of the family company, Waystar RoyCo, with his four adult children vying for their piece of the pie.

The similarities between the fantasy show and Succession are so striking that even showrunner Ryan Condal agrees with the sentiment that House of the Dragon is "Succession with dragons," with HBO's previous drama even acting as a direct influence for crafting the tone of the Game of Thrones prequel show in the writer's room. Both shows are about a civil war within a singular family, and the tragedy that results. This, among a few other reasons, is why the House of the Dragon and Succession mashup works so well.
