****** is thrilled to announce Button Man Films' newest mob thriller MobKing is making having its first-ever screening at the AFM World Market Premiere in Santa Monica. An exclusive clip from the fascinating new clip highlights Ciro Dapagio's return as Mike White, the character from his award-winning web series of the same name. White is a rehabilitated gangster who has turned over a new leaf and become a stand-up citizen after his prison sentence, but all of that changes when he finds himself in the crosshairs of Miami’s most notorious criminal organization.
Joining Dapagio is James Russo (Donnie Brasco), who plays Dominick “Dom” Sasso, the head of South Florida's Sasso Crime Family and a Capo di Tutti Capi who will stop at nothing when it comes to protecting his loved ones. MobKing boasts an impressive set of actors who previously starred in classic mob series like The Sopranos and acclaimed films such as The Irishman. Robert LaSardo, Oksana Lada, Artie Pasquale, Paul Borghese, Stelio Savante, Antoni Corone, Elisabetta Fantone, Bruce Soscia, and Anthony Caliendo round out the cast.
In ****** exclusive clip from MobKing, Mike White and his associates debate the significance of Sicilian heritage to mob work. Despite their strong association with one another, many of history's infamous mafia (or mafia-adjacent) heads from Al Capone to Vito Genovese were not Sicilian at all. More than ancestry, however, what matters now is family—and Mike can't bear to put his through more danger and fear.
MobKing Goes From The Small Screen To The Silver One
Dapagio made waves when his popular web series was selected for film adaptation, and MobKing's behind-the-scenes credits are truly something to marvel at. Directed and co-written by Emmy Award-winning director Jorge “Jokes” Yanes (Gabriel: Amor Immortal), the film brings back what worked about the show while also raising the stakes as needed for film. James Bishop, Cristy Trabadass, and Ciro Dipagio himself serve as additional writers. Yanes shared the following statement on his journey with the project:
After working on the award-winning web series, The MobKing, I was thrilled by the international fanbase's (of over two million engaged followers) response to the main character, reformed mobster Mike White. In crafting the feature film version, we were all excited to make our contribution to the mob flick genre by creating something familiar yet still special and unique; something that has its own special blend of traditional codes and how that works in today's world.
In addition to ******* exclusive clip, the above first-look photos give audiences a better look at the different crime families that make up MobKing's story, specifically the White Family and the Sasso Family. But the heart of the tale goes back to Mike White, and the real-life experience that Dapagio brings to the table as creator and star. He explained his connection to the material below:
A good decade and a half (in prison) can go a very long way in changing your perspective on your life path and how you should live your life. There’s nothing cool about a life of crime. It does not pay. And the driving force behind me coming to that realization is my family and my kids. I wanted to do something in this life that my kids can be proud of. I want to create a better second half of my life than the first half. This project and its success will make up for all of my past mistakes ten times over.
