The first poster for Evil Dead Rise teases a frightening family connection. The upcoming film in the Evil Dead franchise will be the fifth overall entry in the series and was initially slated to release on HBO Max before Warner Bros. Discovery moved it to a theatrical release in August 2022. The film is written and directed by Lee Cronin and stars Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols, and Morgan Davies. While Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell will not return to reprise his role as Ash Williams, Cronin was handpicked by Sam Raimi, who directed the franchise's first three installments, with Campbell executive producing alongside Raimi.

Now, Cronin released the film's first poster on Twitter in anticipation of the Evil Dead Rise teaser trailer's release. While not much is currently known about the plot, the poster teases that a protagonist gets possessed by the Deadites, with the three children having a frighteningly close connection to their mother. How Evil Dead Rise Will Be Different From Previous Installments

Evil Dead Rise will retain many elements from the previous films, such as the Necronomicon, which gives birth to the flesh-possessing Deadites, and the creatures themselves, which popularized the first film as a classic of horror cinema in the first place. However, this time the Evil Dead movies will move away from a classic cabin in the woods, where many of the events in past films took place. Instead, Evil Dead Rise will be set inside a cramped apartment in Los Angeles, where the main plot will occur.

Vikings' Alyssa Sutherland stars as Ellie, who is visited by her sister Beth (Lily Sullivan) in L.A. However, Ellie soon gets possessed by the Deadites after the Necronomicon is discovered in her apartment. The fact that the film is set in a contemporary environment, beyond a cabin in the woods, means that Evil Dead Rise is free with its premise to create a more claustrophobic feel inside the apartment than in the woods. This could make for a more atmospheric and tension-filled horror film than Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy where a blend of horror, comedy, and extreme gore made the trilogy instant classics.

Evil Dead Rise will also have the challenge to make a good movie without Bruce Campbell's presence as Ash. While he appeared in the 2013 remake of Evil Dead in a post-credits cameo, the actor announced his retirement from the character a few years after the cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead. It seems that Evil Dead Rise will not be related in any way to Ash vs. Evil Dead and the 2013 remake, and instead be a completely standalone sequel, while only keeping certain elements.
