The trailer for Netflix's Enola Holmes sees Millie Bobby Brown breaking the fourth wall and running circles around Henry Cavill's Sherlock. The movie, based on the book series by Nancy Springer, is a different take on the classic Sherlock Holmes tales, focusing instead on his younger sister Enola, played by Brown, star of Stranger Things. It will be released on the streaming service on September 23, and also stars Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Holmes, Sam Claflin as the eldest brother Mycroft and Louis Partridge as the young Lord Tewksbury.

Despite some controversy around Enola Holmes, with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's estate suing Netflix for portraying Sherlock as too nice, the marketing for the movie has ramped up ahead of its release. A short teaser trailer was dropped just over a week ago, giving audiences the first glimpse at Brown in action as the titular heroine. And just a day later the first poster was released, revealing the release date and giving over some space to the supporting cast, including Adeel Akhtar and Susan Wokoma.

Now, the first full-length trailer has been released by Netflix, showing off the movie's sharp blend of humor and action. Brown takes center stage as Enola, narrating the trailer via scenes in which she breaks the fourth wall, speaking directly to the audience. There's also space for Cavill to shine, putting in a decidedly charming performance as the legendary detective Sherlock. Claflin, on the other hand, is all business as Mycroft. Meanwhile, Carter's Mrs. Holmes is portrayed as a free-spirited adventurer, something she's clearly passed down to her daughter. You can watch the trailer below.

The footage presented here makes the movie look similar in tone and approach to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies. Set in Doyle's late 19th-century, the Enola Holmes follows the young detective as she attempts to solve the sudden disappearance of her mother, mostly alone. Along the way, she encounters Partridge's Tewksbury and the pair seem to have a love-hate relationship that develops into a teen romance. Purists will certainly balk at the way the trailer plays out, but for others, the movie certainly looks like a fun and exciting adventure.

Netflix, known for its more adult-oriented action films like The Old Guard and Extraction lately seems to have a family-friendly hit on its hands here, with Brown showing off her comedic range in a role that she seems to be enjoying immensely. Cavill, too, has fun as Sherlock, in a rare role that allows him to be more charming and funny than intense and muscular. By the looks of it, Enola Holmes is going to be a wild ride.
