The Hypnotic trailer reveals the first full look at Ben Affleck in Robert Rodriguez's new movie. Known for directing an array of stylized action films like Desperado, From Dusk till Dawn, Sin City, Planet Terror, Machete, and Alita: Battle Angel, Rodriguez started working on the script for Hypnotic way back in 2002 and recently called it "one of [his] favorite stories." In his first collaboration with the director, the action thriller stars Affleck as a detective searching for his missing daughter, but with several sci-fi twists in store.

Now, after a work-in-progress cut of the film was screened at South by Southwest to rapturous reactions, IGN has unveiled the first official Hypnotic trailer.

The trailer, which can be seen above, introduces Affleck as an Austin-based investigator named Danny Rourke whose daughter is kidnaped at a park under mysterious circumstances. Determined to find his missing daughter, the detective soon spirals down a rabbit hole involving a series of reality-bending bank heists that are somehow related to his daughter, and cause Rourke to question his fundamental understanding of reality.

Everything Revealed By The Hypnotic Trailer

As Rourke begins investigating the elaborate bank heists, he crosses paths with a mysterious man played by William Fichtner, who seems to be behind the disappearance of his daughter. Throughout the Hypnotic trailer, Rourke inexplicably pursues and is pursued by the lethal specter, and the detective soon discovers he is entangled in a much more complicated mystery. During his investigation, Rourke is aided by an unnervingly gifted psychic, Diana Cruz (played by Alice Braga), who called in a tip on the bank heist and introduces him to the enigmatic concept known as hypnotics, which can alter one's perception of reality.

In addition to the aforementioned stars, the ensemble Hypnotic cast also includes J.D. Pardo, Hala Finley, Dayo Okeniyi, Jeff Fahey, and Jackie Earle Haley. Co-written by the MonsterVerse's Max Borenstein, Hypnotic features a mind-bending plot reminiscent of Christoper Nolan's Inception more so than the highly-stylized violence Rodriguez is known for, though his signature fast-paced action is still present. The wait won't be long before audiences can unpack the many mysteries presented by the Hypnotic trailer, as the movie releases in theaters on May 12.
