HOUSE STARK CHARACTERS WHO HAVE BEEN KILLED OFF

Nothing would be as it is in the Game of Thrones if it wasn't for the monumental deaths that changed the course of the series. One of the show's earliest, and most shocking, deaths was that of Ned Stark. The former Lord of Winterfell was a pillar of the series, and his death set off the ongoing rivalry among the Starks and the Lannisters. That tension has rippled across Westeros and serves as the root of many resulting deaths among the two factions and their allies.

The Lannisters are credited with the deaths of multiple members of House Stark in one of the bloodiest scenes in the show's history. The Red Wedding massacre saw the end of King Robb Stark, his wife Talisa, and their unborn child, Lady Catelyn, and Robb's direwolf Grey Wind. Their tragic deaths came at the hands of the Freys and Boltons, with Tywin Lannister as the mastermind. Other major Stark members and House allies who have been killed include:

  • Rickon: Killed by Ramsay Bolton during the Battle of the Bastards.
  • Benjen: Sacrificed himself to save Jon from wights when they ventured beyond the Wall.
  • Hodor: Sacrificed himself to save Bran and Meera when the White Walkers and wights infiltrated the Cave of the Three-Eyed Raven.
  • Direwolves (Summer, Shaggydog, Lady): Killed while fighting for Bran in the cave, killed by the Umbers and skinned by Ramsay, executed in place of Nymeria by Ned Stark after attacking Joffrey.
  • Littlefinger: Killed by Arya at the request of Sansa for his many betrayals.

THE HOUSES THAT HAVE BEEN WIPED OUT IN GAME OF THRONES

Cersei's reign of terror ramped up after the death of her husband, Robert Baratheon. The Baratheon brothers never fared too well when it came to their quest for the throne. Stannis assisted in killing his own brother Renly, but he never made it to the top. He was killed by Brienne after burning his own daughter Shireen at the stake. His wife, Selyse, then hanged herself for what happened to their daughter.

The rest of the Baratheons included Cersei and Robert's children, Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen. Technically, the trio were full-blood Lannisters considering Jaime was their biological father. With their deaths and the names mentioned above, House Baratheon is now gone from the show.

House Baratheon isn't the only House to have been wiped out. House Bolton is extinct following Ramsay's execution after the Battle of the Bastards, since there was no heir. The same goes for House Tyrell after the death of Olenna Tyrell. There were no members of the family to take over after Mace, Loras, and Margaery are killed in the Sept of Baelor explosion.

House Martell would have immensely helped Daenerys and her efforts, but all the Martells in the show are now either dead or fone. Oberyn was memorably killed by the Mountain, while Doran and Trystane were murdered by Ellaria and the three Sand Snakes. The Sand Snakes were later killed and Ellaria was sentenced to life in the Black Cells. With no true heir, House Martell is expected to also be wiped away. They can be added to the ever-growing list of factions that are no longer in the path to taking over the Seven Kingdoms.

Season 8 of Game of Thrones premieres April 14 on HBO.
