Star-Lord's dance in Avengers: Endgame used no footage from Guardians of the Galaxy. Released one year ago, Endgame brought the MCU's Infinity Saga to a close in a massive film that featured plenty of callbacks to the previous twenty-one films. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo, along with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, stuffed Endgame with lines and moments specifically designed to pull reactions out of longtime fans, and it's safe to say that some of those reactions were pretty epic. Fans and those associated with the film were happy to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Endgame with callbacks of their own and various fan edits.

As part of the Avengers' Time Heist (the source of many, many references to past films), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Rhodey (Don Cheadle) traveled to the planet Morag in 2014 in search of the Power Stone. This put them in the same space as Star-Lord himself, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), as he danced along to Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love". The scene seemed to be directly pulled from 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, which introduced the adult Peter through the funny moment. Star-Lord's dance is cut short by Rhodey knocking him out, but it did the trick in making audiences laugh.

During a live watch party of Endgame, the writers were asked if that scene featured reused footage from Guardians of the Galaxy, since quite honestly it looked similar. However, it turns out Star-Lord's dance was "All new," according to McFeely. This makes sense, seeing as Rhodey had to step in at the last second to give Peter a good, hard smack.

This fun fact about Star-Lord's Time Heist moment is just one of many things revealed during the watch party, which also included the Russo brothers and, briefly, Robert Downey Jr. In fact, Downey told fans that he recently chatted with the rest of the original six Avengers, though whether it was a friendly call or had a grander purpose behind it is unknown. Regardless, many people got into the spirit of celebrating Endgame's first birthday, and fans were spoiled with all the new information they got.

Star Lord is next expected to appear in the still-undated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, there are rumors that he and the other Guardians could make an appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder first, which is currently slated for February 2022. Endgame last saw him heading back into space with the Guardians and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), likely in search of Gamora (Zoe Saldana). May Star Lord find new reasons to dance wherever he may go.
