As acclaim continues to pour in, Paramount+ has greenlit Evil season 4. Katja Herbers leads the cast of the horror-thriller series as Dr. Kristen Bouchard, a forensic psychologist who begins working with Mike Colter's David Acosta, a former journalist studying to be a Catholic priest, to investigate cases with potential supernatural and demonic ties. Evil revolves around Kristen and David's complicated relationship with each other, their faith and Michael Emerson's malevolent Dr. Leland Townsend, who has dark ties to demonic forces and has his sights set on Kristen and David.

Evil season 3 picked up right on the heels of the season 2 finale, in which David has been officially ordained as a Catholic priest and Kristen broke down and tearfully confessed to murdering serial killer Orson LeRoux, with the two sharing a kiss after he absolves her of her sins. The latest chapter of the series has explored this complicated new dynamic between the two, including David's temptation from a succubus, as well as his involvement with an espionage unit within the Catholic church and Ben's struggles processing their various cases. Much like its predecessors, Evil season 3 has scored widespread critical acclaim and its future is looking even brighter.

Just over a month after season 3 kicked off on the streamer, Paramount+ has confirmed Evil season 4's renewal. The streamer confirmed that the show not only continues to be a critical hit for the platform, but is one of its top performers and credits it with drawing in new users. Paramount+ Original Scripted Series President Nicole Clemens wrote the following statement regarding the renewal.

“EVIL continues to expand its fanbase of both critics and viewers alike; season three currently has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it is a consistent top five most-watched original series and acquisition driver for the service. We couldn’t be more excited to be terrified by what Robert and Michelle create for season four with our outstanding cast bringing it to life.”

Originally developed by The Good Fight's Robert and Michelle King for CBS, Evil made the move to Paramount+ for season 2 in 2021 following COVID-related delays and received even higher acclaim than its debut outing for its more daring writing and more terrifying cases. Between the prior season's cliffhanger ending and trailers promising wilder cases and the return of the fan-favorite demon George, anticipation had been high leading up to Evil season 3's premiere this past June. Given the latest season of the show once again raised the bar on reviews in comparison to its predecessors, it may not come as a surprise to some that Paramount+ has greenlit Evil season 4.

One of the more interesting takeaways from the Evil season 4 renewal is the confirmation from Paramount+ that the show has consistently remained in its top five of most-watched original series. Given the streamer's library has grown with the likes of Yellowstone prequel 1883, which became its most-watched title, Halo season 1, Mayor of Kingstown and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in the time since Evil premiered on Paramount+, it proves promising that it continues to outperform much of its competition and is credited by the platform for bringing in more subscribers. While audiences await further details on season 4, they can look forward to new episodes of Evil season 3 airing Sundays on Paramount+ leading up to its finale on August 14.
