Chris Hemsworth is back as Tyler Rake in the first official trailer for Extraction 2, which sees the actor set on fire. The sequel is once again directed by stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave and produced by Joe and Anthony Russo. Extraction 2 sees Rake embark on a new mission, trading the bustling Indian city streets of the previous film for a snowy and cold Eastern European setting.
As the Extraction 2 release date approaches, Netflix has now unveiled the full trailer for the sequel, teasing the gnarly prison fight and the lasting effects of Rake's gunshot wounds. Check out the new trailer below:
In addition to providing a first look at the young woman who is seemingly Rake's new extraction target, the trailer also teases an explosive fight scene atop a moving train. Although the original film featured some intense and impressively choreographed fight scenes, the sequel appears to be taking this to an entirely new level.
What The Extraction 2 Trailer Reveals About The Movie
Although Rake's survival was hinted at during the ending of the original movie, Extraction 2 looks like it will be providing further details regarding what happened to him following his neck gunshot wound and tumble into the river. A voice in the trailer reveals that Rake did in fact clinically die, even briefly showing the hero in a coma. After he sustains a head wound during Extraction 2's prison riot scene in the trailer, it looks like Rake could still dealing with some potential cognitive effects from his prior injuries.
Rake may have been clinically dead, but that sure doesn't seem to have affected his ability to take out numerous enemies in quick succession. The prison riot scene features the same clear-cut and intricately-choreographed action from the first movie and has previously been revealed to be a part of the sequel's extended oner sequence. The first movie featured a oner action sequence as Rake drives, shoots, and falls from rooftops during various action beats, and Extraction 2's oner will seemingly be attempting to top this with an even bigger and bolder set piece.
While the trailer is light on specific story details, it does reveal the young woman who is Rake's new mission. The circumstances regarding why the young woman must be extracted aren't clear in the trailer, but a synopsis shared last year revealed that a Georgian mobster will be the film's central villain, threatening the young woman and her family. As the Extraction 2 release date approaches, more information and footage from the film will hopefully be revealed, shedding further light on Rake's dangerous new mission.
