A-FORCE

2015’s “Secret Wars” event saw Marvel introduce their first all-female Avengers team, dubbed “A-Force.” The team featured a wide range of prominent female superheroes, from She-Hulk to Medusa, from Captain Marvel to Nico Minoru of the Runaways. The last few months have seen growing rumors that Marvel are considering an all-female ensemble film, and the actors have done their level best to fan them into flame. Tessa Thompson has suggested Marvel’s Kevin Feige is “really excited by the idea.” Phase 4 is definitely going to see the MCU’s gender balance problems addressed – Wasp is clearly becoming a major character, next year will launch the new Captain Marvel franchise, and Marvel are working on a Black Widow film. The time certainly seems ripe for a female super-team.

But things have already begun in Avengers: Infinity War. The Battle of Wakanda includes one stunning scene that seems almost like a trailer for an A-Force film; it sees a handful of Marvel’s strongest warrior women – Okoye, Black Widow, and Scarlet Witch – team up against the Black Order. It’s a thrilling sequence, reminding every viewer that Marvel’s women can kick ass just as well as the men.

Marvel movies are full of secrets, so it’s likely some future-minded clues in Avengers: Infinity War have been so hidden they’re yet to be found. Even so, what’s abundantly clear is that the “culmination” isn’t really the end.
