Emma Stone has reportedly been cast in “Baby Driver” and “Last Night in Soho” director Edgar Wright’s next film “The Chain” based on Adrian McKinty’s 2019 award-winning thriller novel.

The Direct broke the news, claiming Stone will play the lead role of Rachel, a divorcee who receives a call to tell her that her 11-year-old daughter Kylie has been kidnapped.

To rescue her child, she is forced to kidnap another, and Kylie will only be released once the parents of that child kidnap yet another one, thus continuing ‘The Chain’. If any of these things don’t happen, Kylie will be murdered.

What the masterminds behind this chain letter-esque kidnapping scheme don’t know is with Rachel, who survived a bout with cancer, they may have met their match as she is smart and determined enough to not only get her daughter back but to potentially break ‘The Chain’.

Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the book in a seven-figure deal in 2020 and Wright will helm from a script by “X-Men: First Class” scribe Jane Goldman. Wright will produce alongside Nira Park, Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, and Shane Salerno.

Stone recently worked twice with her “The Favourite” director Yorgos Lanthimos on his next two films “Poor Things” and “And” which have both been shot and will be released by Searchlight. She has also been filming Showtime’s “The Curse” comedy series alongside Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie.
