Rick and Morty are in a new Back to the Future artwork. The famed Adult Swim characters have recently returned for the fourth season of the critically acclaimed animated series, with the show currently on a mid-season break.

Originally begun as a short parody of the 1985 hit film Back to the Future, Rick and Morty has since gone on to achieve a cult-like status. With its hilarious yet surprisingly philosophical attention to detail, the series follows the adventures of alcoholic scientist Rick Sanchez and his naïve grandson Morty Smith as they journey from dimension to dimension and planet to planet in Rick’s flying car. Back in 2018, the show was greenlit for an astonishing 70 more episodes, making fans giddy with excitement over the prospect of six more seasons after the current fourth season finishes. No one can be certain exactly what’s in store for Rick, Morty and the Smiths in the coming seasons, but one the safe bet is that there will be plenty more hilarity, mind-bending concepts and of course, a near constant supply of references and celebrity cameos.

As fans wait eagerly for the second half of the fourth series to kick off, any little bit of Rick and Morty information or trivia is always appreciated. Thankfully, the internet does its part to supply such things, and now a new work of art from self-described “frustrated artist”, Marcelo Ventura has arrived. The new work can be found on Ventura’s Instagram account, Venturaartbook, and pays homage to Rick and Morty’s early beginnings as a humorous take on Back to the Future. You can check out the full image below, complete with heart-warming gestures from both Rick and Morty:

As can be seen in the above image, the artwork is of substantial quality and detail, with numerous references to both the 1985 film and the TV series strewn throughout. For fans who might be interested in purchasing the work, Ventura is selling the 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) creation for $400. Though this price might be a little steep for some, it’s worth remembering that this is an original work of art. Judging by the number of likes that the post has received as well as the comments from fans and admirers alike, Ventura likely won’t have much trouble selling the piece. Whether or not there will be more Rick and Morty themed art in Ventura’s future is anyone’s guess, but a look through the artist’s Instagram page highlights numerous pop culture pieces that are sure to attract collectors, fans or just those who appreciate interesting takes on popular subjects.

Ironically enough, this Back to the Future themed Rick and Morty artwork comes on the heels of news that Spider-Man star Tom Holland has previously been in talks regarding a reboot of the acclaimed film. Though it appears unlikely that we’ll be seeing Holland in a Back to the Future reboot any time soon, fans of the film (and its subsequent sequels) can always find parallels between the live action series and the off-the wall, animated zaniness of Rick and Morty.
