Jon Bernthal's Punisher joins the MCU in a new fan poster for the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. Marvel characters Daredevil and The Punisher both used to have their own shows on Netflix. Now Daredevil is making the leap to Disney+ with the recently-announced series Daredevil: Born Again.
Of course as fans well-remember, Frank Castle aka The Punisher did also cross over to Netflix's Daredevil, appearing in 12 episodes of that series. And given this history of Punisher and Daredevil teaming up on-screen, it’s natural to speculate that Bernthal’s Castle could come back for the upcoming Born Again Disney+ show. It just so happens that rumors have lately begun swirling claiming Punisher is set to make an appearance alongside Daredevil on Disney+.
Such rumors are of course the stuff of which great fan art is made. And digital creator Rahal Nejraoui has indeed answered the call, crafting a Daredevil: Born Again poster that sees Punisher getting into the thick of the action alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock. See the image in the space below:
Bernthal’s casting in Daredevil: Born Again is of course just a rumor at this point. As of now, the only confirmed character to be joining Matt Murdock is Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, to again be played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Obviously, Kingpin himself already showed up in a Disney+ Marvel series, playing a large role in last year’s Hawkeye. And Daredevil will himself get a Disney+ trial run before appearing in his own standalone show, popping up on She-Hulk: Attorney At Law for a cameo. There is also a rumor stating Daredevil will play a role in the Hawkeye spinoff show Echo (and, for that matter, another rumor claiming Echo actor Alaqua Cox will also be a player in Daredevil: Born Again).
It’s obviously great news for fans of Netflix’s now-canceled roster of Marvel shows that some of their favorite characters are getting another look from Disney+. Of course the concern with Disney+ is that some of the edge may be taken off these characters, given the streamer’s tendency to skew toward family-friendly content. A character as brutal as The Punisher may indeed seem like a bad fit for Disney+, but then again, the same could’ve been said about Kingpin, and Hawkeye still managed to make his appearance work. Bernthal’s return to the MCU as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again would frankly be a surprise, given how hot the actor is right now. But on the other hand, maybe Bernthal loves the character enough to consider a cameo. And the above fan art does a great job visualizing what such a Punisher/Daredevil Disney+ team-up might look like.
