Adonis is getting back in the ring for the fight of a lifetime in Creed III. The sports drama franchise first launched in 2015, acting as a continuation of Sylvester Stallone's iconic Rocky series, though now centered on Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed, son of Rocky's rival-turned-friend Apollo. First helmed by Ryan Coogler, who would later direct Jordan in Black Panther, then by future Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr., the Creed movies have proven to be critical and commercial hits.
With less than a month remaining until its hits theaters, MGM have released a new Creed III trailer during Super Bowl LVII.
The video offers a further look at the highly-anticipated boxing threequel, namely the hard-hitting fights to come from the film surrounding Jonathan Majors' complex antagonist, Damian "Dame" Anderson. Check out the new trailer above:
Everything We Know About Creed III
Creed III is expected to pick up sometime after the events of its predecessor, with Jordan's titular boxer having largely stepped away from the ring and put his focus into coaching and running his gym, following in the footsteps of his own mentor, Sylvester Stallone's Rocky. Adonis will find his idyllic life upended by the arrival of Damian Anderson, a former childhood friend who returns from a long sentence in prison, having seemingly taken the fall for Adonis for something in their past. Initially a heartwarming reunion, Adonis finds Dame not just looking to prove himself as a star boxer, but actually looking to take everything from him.
Jordan marks one of multiple familiar faces returning for Creed III, with others including Tessa Thompson as Adonis' partner Bianca, Wood Harris as Adonis' uncle-figure Little Duke Evers, Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago, Phylicia Rashad as Adonis' mother Mary Anne and Tony Bellew as "Pretty" Ricky Conlan. The most notable new face to come from the threequel is Majors as Dame, an antagonist with a rich history tied to Adonis. Creed III continues Majors' rise to mainstream stardom in recent years alongside his turn as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as cowboy Nat Love in The Harder They Fall.
Despite the many returning faces, Creed III will notably mark the first installment in the whole franchise without Stallone's Rocky appearing. The franchise creator/star previously indicated he elected to bow out of the film, feeling it took a "quite different" direction from what he would've done with the film, though Jordan has teased that it will address Rocky's absence and retain the spirit of the original movies. It will be interesting to see how the new chapter compares to its predecessors when Creed III hits theaters on March 3.
