Everything We Know About The Boston Strangler Movie

Boston Strangler is told through the perspective of Loretta McLaughlin (Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper who broke the story of the Boston Strangler and, with the help of fellow reporter Jean Cole (Coon), challenged the rampant sexism of the era. Despite the personal risk, the two fearless reporters pursue a story that uncovers evidence of corruption and casts doubt on the identity of the infamous strangler.

The Boston Strangler cast is led by two heavyweights in Knightley, a two-time Oscar-nominated actress best known for her role in Pirates of the Caribbean, and Coon, who has been a consistent presence in film and television, starring in Avengers: Infinity War and receiving an Emmy nod for her performance in Fargo. They are joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Many Saints of Newark's Alessandro Nivola, Joker's Bill Camp, Oscar-winner Chris Cooper, Morgan Spector, and Robert John Burke. Dune’s David Dastmalchian plays the role of Albert DeSalvo, the man suspected of being the Boston Strangler, though later DNA evidence suggested the murders were committed by more than one person.

Writer/director Ruskin, who has a history of making true-crime documentaries, is a Boston native with a personal connection to the story of the strangler and shot the film on-location to ensure it was as historically accurate as possible. With Ruskin at the helm, the movie has attracted some high-profile producers in Ridley Scott and Margot Robbie. The fusion of true crime and journalism has long provided the basis for a number of compelling films, such as David Fincher's Zodiac, and hopefully Boston Strangler can garner similar acclaim when it releases on March 17, 2023 on Hulu.
