A new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power teases a very different version of the Mines of Moria than audiences have seen before. Taking place thousands of years before the events of Peter Jackson's beloved The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Rings of Power chronicles the rise of evil in the prosperous Second Age of Middle-earth. The show marks one of the most expensive TV shows ever made, with Amazon expected to spend around $1 billion across the show's five planned seasons.

Although The Rings of Power takes place long before Jackson's films, there are several returning characters and locations. Galadriel, played by Cate Blanchett in Jackson's trilogy, returns for the new series, this time played by Morfydd Clark. Lord Elrond also returns, with Robert Aramayo taking over the role from Hugo Weaving. In addition to returning characters, the show is expected to feature several familiar locations. Trailers have provided a brief glimpse at the scenic beauty of Middle-earth, showing the return of the Dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dûm, known commonly as Moria. Now, a new trailer for The Rings of Power shows off the location like never before.

A trailer posted by the official The Lord of the Rings on Prime Twitter account shows that the version of Moria in The Rings of Power will be very different from what audiences have seen before. A vibrant and much more colorful version of Moria is featured in the trailer, with the mine and surrounding kingdom fully occupied by hard-working Dwarves. Owain Arthur, who plays Prince Durin IV, describes the Dwarves of Moria as a "tight-knit" community, with the actor also teasing that there's more going on in the kingdom than meets the eye. When Frodo, Gandalf, and the rest of the Fellowship gain access to the Mines of Moria in Jackson's first The Lord of the Rings film, they find the kingdom in ruin. The floors are strewn with Dwarf corpses, and the location appears long-abandoned. The trailer for The Rings of Power seemingly shows Moria in its heyday, with the mines fully functioning and a thriving Dwarf community keeping everything running. Arthur's Durin and Sophia Nomvete's Disa appear to be important figures in the kingdom, with Disa greeting Elrond with a warm hug.

It remains to be seen what Arthur is referring to in his comment about what's going on in Moria, but it would seem that the Dwarves may be hiding something from the rest of Middle-earth. Despite the Dwarves' insular lifestyle, the newest The Rings of Power trailer shows that Elrond visits Moria, perhaps suggesting that the Elven lord suspects there's more to Moria than meets the eye. With the release date for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power now less than a week away, fans don't have much longer to wait before experiencing the new Mines of Moria for themselves.
