With Vin Diesel nearing his exit from the Fast and Furious franchise, the action star can return to another one of his famous roles as The Chronicles of Riddick's titular character. Diesel had his big break in Hollywood with Steven Spielberg's 1998 Saving Private Ryan, which he immediately followed with a streak of hits: The Iron Giant, Pitch Black, The Fast and the Furious, and xXx. However, Vin Diesel has mostly focused on the Fast and Furious movie series, only reprising his roles as Riddick and Xander Cage occasionally.

After nine movies, one spinoff, one animated series, and a couple of short films, the Fast Saga is confirmed to end with two final movies, after which the Fast and Furious franchise will likely continue without major characters like Dominic Toretto. With an imminent goodbye for Toretto on the horizon, Vin Diesel will have more time to explore other roles. While Diesel will have many new characters coming his way, he must not forget one of the roles that started his career before The Fast and The Furious: Riddick.

Why Vin Diesel Should Make Riddick 4 Next

2000's Pitch Black established an alluring sci-fi setting, but it was Vin Diesel's imposing presence that stole the spotlight to the point that the rest of the franchise rebranded itself as "The Chronicles of Riddick," which included retroactively renaming first installment to The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black. The Chronicles of Riddick franchise already rivals the expansion of the Fast and Furious franchise with two sequels, one short prequel movie, two video games, a couple of comic books, and an anime short. However, the franchise still feels vastly undercooked, considering how expansive Riddick's lore can be.

Fortunately, Vin Diesel is aware of Riddick's potential, and he has continued to work on the fourth feature film for several years, with Riddick 4: Furya in active development. It has a completed script, storyboards, and concept art. With sci-fi franchises such as Avatar, Star Wars, and Marvel expanding exponentially, Riddick can't stay behind. A fourth movie is the least the property can do to delve deeper into Riddick's backstory and the history of Riddick's home planet, Furya.

How Riddick Can Be A Great Change After Toretto

Beyond The Chronicles of Riddick's potential as a sci-fi franchise, Riddick still has a lot to offer as a character. Richard B. Riddick may not be a complete deviation from most of Vin Diesel's action heroes, but he is quite different from Dominic Toretto. Vin Diesel's Toretto puts his family first, and he's part of a team as much as he's a world-saving hero, whereas Riddick is a lone wolf anti-hero who quickly moves on from his brief alliances with other less mighty heroes. The Fast and Furious franchise has turned Dominic Toretto from a street racer to an almost invincible superhero. The Chronicles of Riddick's next installments could do the opposite by transforming Riddick from a detached alien to a more vulnerable warrior traveling the universe.
