The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Charlie Vickers details Halbrand's fateful encounter with Galadriel on the Sundering Seas. Amazon Prime Video's upcoming adaptation based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. The prequel series will feature the return of two immortal Elves, Galadriel and Elrond. They previously appeared in Peter Jackson's cinematic trilogies portrayed by Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving. However, they are now played by His Dark Materials' Morfydd Clark and Game of Thrones' Robert Aramayo.

Rings of Power will also introduce a ton of new characters from Tolkien's legendarium and those created just for the show, including humans, Elves, Dwarves, Harfoots, and Orcs. Newcomer Charlie Vickers plays one of the most important new characters in Halbrand, a human running from his past whose destiny becomes intertwined with the young Galadriel, who has yet to become the ethereal Elven queen fans know her as. A new Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power trailer was debuted at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, and new information is still trickling out of the convention.

During Collider's interviews with the Rings of Power cast at SDCC 2022, Vickers revealed some exciting new plot details for Prime Video's highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings show. The Halbrand actor says his character's journey is defined by a fateful encounter with Galadriel on the Sundering Seas during a massive storm. Read what he shared below:

There's a chance had he not met her that his life might have not gone on? And I think that that's interesting. In that moment, when they first meet, they are survival to each other. It's like if he hadn't met her, he was still stuck on this raft in the middle of the Sundering Seas. So I think that their fates crossing paths opens up this whole world for Hal and makes him question so many things in his past, and then it also makes him reassess the kind of man he might be in the future.

In his comments above, Vickers describes one of the most elaborate sequences in Rings of Power on the Sundering Seas, located between Aman and Middle-earth. In episode 1, Galadriel and Halbrand meet during a chance encounter amidst the vast body of water and must take refuge together on a meager raft to ride out the chaos of a storm. Though she eventually becomes the ruler of Lothlórien, Rings of Power will find Galadriel in her youth as an Eleven warrior who sails the Sundering Seas, scales mountains, and rides into battle on horseback.

Based on Vickers' comments, Galadriel and Halbrand's stories in Rings of Power will begin with their encounter on the Sundering Seas, tying their fates together for the remainder of the series. Little is known about Hal or his past, which he is running from, though it seems like the mystery human will become a close ally for Galadriel early on. Since The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will chronicle Sauron's rise to power and likely the War of the Last Alliance, it's easy to imagine Galadriel and Halbrand eventually fighting side-by-side to defeat the Dark Lord, all made possible by their fateful encounter on the Sundering Seas.
