It's a giant ape versus post-dystopian talking apes this November.


It's the cross-property crossover that is so perfect, it's surprising that it's never been done before. Starting this November, ape might just end up having to kill ape when Boom! Studios launches the six-issue Kong on the Planet of the Apes comic book series.
The "Kong" in question is neither the cinematic King Kong of the original movie, nor the version that appeared in this year's Kong: Skull Island; instead, it's the Kong of Joe DeVito's Skull Island property based on the original Merian C. Cooper King Kong novel. (The similarities between DeVito's property and the Legendary movie led to a lawsuit last year.)
The series, written by Ryan Ferrier with art by Carlos Magno, takes place following the events of the original 1968 Planet of the Apes movie, and sees General Ursus and Dr. Zaius accidentally uncover a Kong during an attempt to convince ape society that Taylor didn't exist. That discovery leads to a second, potentially more terrifying, one: what has become of Skull Island during the time of the apes.
"There's such a deep mythology to both properties, especially if you consider all of the amazing Kong and Apes comics that have come out in recent years," Ferrier said in a statement from the publisher. "With this series, we've found a coherent, meaningful way of having these two worlds and their legacies fold into each other. The implications of the Ape civilization discovering the Kong world are huge, and that's certainly on the forefront of the series."
