The coming apocalypse can certainly bring together strange bedfellows in the first trailer for Amazon’s Good Omens. The long-awaited adaptation of the novel of the same name from Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman gets the miniseries treatment that may very well do the source material justice, as it not only looks to offer plenty of spectacle, but it also boasts a stacked cast that’ll make this more of an actual event series.

With David Tennant and Michael Sheen in the lead roles of an angel and demon who happen to have the same mission of finding the Antichrist and preventing Armageddon, Good Omens seems like it’s a surefire hit for Amazon Prime. But once you throw in the likes of Jon Hamm, Mireille Enos, Nick Offerman, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson, Michael McKean, and Adria Arjona, it certainly makes the miniseries far more compelling. Plus, the trailer shows off a not-so surprisingly fun and energetic series with plenty of laughs and some impressive visual effects.

The full trailer makes it pretty clear what’s going on, and it also shows just how big of an adventure lies ahead for viewers. One of the more surprising things is just how significant a part Hamm plays as the Archangel Gabriel. And although you don’t get to hear them, the characters voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch and Brian Cox — Satan and Death, respectively — both make an appearance. Check out the trailer, poster, and a synopsis of the series below:

“Good Omens is based on the beloved book by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman which follows an unlikely duo, a fussy Angel (Michael Sheen, Masters of Sex) and a loose-living Demon (David Tennant, Doctor Who) who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon. But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he’s meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it’s too late.”

As far as event series go, Amazon doesn’t seem to be holding back with Good Omens. For one thing, it’s primed (no pun intended) to hit the streaming service smack dab in the middle of the summer movie season, suggesting that the House That Bezos Built is aiming to make this one of the blockbuster TV series the service has been chasing since refocusing its priorities on finding the next Game of Thrones. If this series works — as both a blockbuster and as a TV series — perhaps it will be a good indication of what Amazon has in mind with its upcoming Lord of the Rings series.

Good Omens premieres Friday, May 31 on Amazon Prime Video.
