All 10 DC Movies Releasing After Black Adam

After many years in development, DC's Black Adam is finally here. It had been a passion project of star Dwayne Johnson, who had promised it to usher in the new age of DC movies. It has been an uncertain time with DC recently, with the cancelation of Batgirl and WB's merger with Discovery. But there are still a lot of films to look forward to in the DCEU and beyond.

In the past, DC and Warner Bros. have been reactionary in the attempt to catch Marvel Studios and the MCU, with projects announced and then soon after disappearing off the slate altogether. But more recently things are starting to look up, with successes like The Batman in their locker. There are 10 films confirmed to be coming after the release of Black Adam, and here is the list of each of them with the respective release dates.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (March 17, 2023)

Aptly, the first film set to be released after Black Adam is Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The sequel to the 2019 original once again stars Zachary Levi and Asher Angel and is directed by David F. Sandberg. Possibly the most fun of all the recent DC films, the Shazam! sequel will be high on a lot of fans' must-watch lists, with it looking to up every aspect of the original. The Shazam family seem to have larger roles, all marked with upgraded suits. The cast also includes Helen Mirren as the villain which should add another element to the enjoyment of the film. It is set to be released March 17, 2023.

    The Flash (June 23, 2023)

If Black Adam is one of the films with the longest time between announcement and release, then The Flash is right on its tail giving it a run for its money. For context, the film was originally announced just after the premier of the CW's Flash TV series, the ninth and final season of which will have aired by the time this movie is released. After many delays over multiple years, and with the ongoing controversy with its star Ezra Miller, the film finally has a firm release date. After losing a heap of directors — including Rick Famuyiwa and Seth Grahame-Smith — Andy Muschietti is the man at the helm. The film will follow Barry Allen as he attempts to save his mother from dying in the past, based on a plot from the 'Flashpoint' comics. The film will introduce Sasha Calle as Supergirl to the DCEU, and it will also mark the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, reprising his role from the 1989 film. As things stand, it is set to be released June 23, 2023.

    Blue Beetle (August 18, 2023)

Originally intended to be released alongside Batgirl (before its cancelation) as the second DC film to drop on HBO Max, it was promoted up to a theatrical release. Blue Beetle follows Jaime Reyes, a Mexican-American teenager from Texas who discovers what he thinks to be a scarab but turns out to be an alien battle suit. Xolo Mariduena will star, directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. It seems to be going slightly under the radar at the minute, but could end up being a welcome surprise when the film is released August 18, 2023.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 25, 2023)

James Wan returns to direct this sequel after the original Aquaman's outstanding turn at the box office back in 2018. The original was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, with just Johnson-McGoldrick returning for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson reprise their roles from the first movie, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta assumed to return also. Wan has said this will have a more serious tone to the first movie and be larger in scope, with different worlds being shown through its runtime. The late December slot was a winner for the studio the first time around, so it's stuck with it this time, with a December 25, 2023 release.

    Joker: Folie a Deux (October 4, 2024)

The first on this list not to be a part of the DCEU, Joker 2 wasn't always a given. The original was billed as a standalone showcase of how the Joker became the Joker. A one-off gamble to go a bit more left field. Then Joker's box office success came grossing over $1 billion worldwide and plans for a sequel soon followed. Todd Phillips will return to direct with Joaquin Phoenix returning as Arthur Fleck/Joker. Plot details are being kept close to the chest currently, but the one thing that is known is that it will be a musical. With that in mind, Lady Gaga is joining the cast to star alongside Phoenix. It is assumed she will be playing the role of Harley Quinn. Other members of the cast include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazi Beetz reprising her role from the original. The title translates to 'madness shared by two'. It seems fans of the original are in for a ride. The sequel currently has an October 4, 2024 release date.

    Wonder Woman 3 (TBC)

After the success of the first two films in the Wonder Woman series, a third film to close out the trilogy was inevitable. Patty Jenkins will return to helm the third outing, with Gal Gadot once again staring as Diana/Wonder Woman. Little is known about the plot at this stage, apart from the fact that it will take place in modern day, after the first two films being set before Wonder Woman's first appearance in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. No release date currently, but more news is expected soon.

    The Batman 2 (TBC)

There is no doubt that The Batman was a huge success. Many fans weren't sure about what Robert Pattinson's take on Bruce Wayne was going to be, but all doubts disappeared upon the release of the film. Matt Reeve's directed the film, which originally started out life as a Ben Affleck solo film but turned into a separate Batman universe away from the DCEU. Matt Reeves confirmed that he and Pattinson will return for a sequel, but nothing else on the project is known as yet. Cast members of the original are likely to return, like Jeffery Wright's Jim Gordon. Colin Farrell's Penguin would also seem to be a given, on top of the news that HBO Max is developing a TV series based in the same universe as The Batman, with Farrell's take on the character. The release date is to be announced.

    Black Canary (TBC)

Another film set to debut on HBO Max, Black Canary will follow the character after the events of Birds of Prey, just without characters like Harley Quinn and Huntress. Jurnee Smollett will reprise her role, with Misha Green writing the script. Producer Sue Kroll, who also worked on Birds of Prey, is set to also produce Black Canary. Not many details on the film yet, but it is still in development.

    Supergirl (TBC)

Details of the development of this one are small, save for the fact that it would be Sasha Calle reprising her role from The Flash. The film would be completely separate from the CW Supergirl show and will continue on from The Flash in the DCEU. Following Kara Zor-El, cousin of Superman, the film could show her early life on Earth as an origin story, but that detail depends on what happens in The Flash.

    Man of Steel 2 (TBC)

Speaking of Superman, fans have been waiting for Henry Cavil to return in a Man of Steel sequel for years. For a while, it looked like he wouldn't return as the Kryptonian at all, but with the character reportedly making an appearance in Black Adam, the chances of a Cavill sequel are looking the highest for years. With Dwayne Johnson's support of both Cavill and Superman, fans have hope again.
