Marvel announced the Fantastic Four release date at San Diego Comic-Con. A Fantastic Four movie has long been in the works, with No Way Home director Jon Watts formerly attached to helm. Marvel's First Family has had a notably tumultuous history on the big screen - the original pair of movies were poorly received and the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot has gone down in history as one of the most notorious flops of all time.

With Marvel Studios' stellar track record, though, audiences are waiting with bated breath to see what the mega-franchise will do with the characters. Since the Fantastic Four movie was announced, Watts has dropped out of the picture and, although the movie is without a director, audiences got their first taste of the Fantastic Four in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. John Krasinski plays multiversal Reed Richards in that film, but it's unclear if he will continue to play the role. Otherwise, news has been slim on that front as audiences speculate on who will play Marvel's First Family and who will be overseeing the project.

Now, Marvel has come to SDCC with some good news. During their panel in Hall H, Marvel Studios announced that Fantastic Four will be hitting theaters on November 8, 2024. The film will also kick off Phase 6 of the MCU.

In addition to the announcement of Fantastic Four's release date, Marvel revealed a truckload of new information about their upcoming slate. Most importantly (especially to the Fantastic Four) are the two Avengers movies announced to release months apart in 2025. The first one will be titled The Kang Dynasty and that draws a direct line to Reed Richards, who, in the comics, is a descendant of Kang the Conqueror. The second Avengers title to be announced is Secret Wars, another comic storyline in which the Fantastic Four (and one of their most iconic villains) play a key role.

With Fantastic Four kicking off Phase 6, it's clear the characters will lead the way in what has been dubbed The Multiverse Saga. Additionally, with a late-2024 release date, it seems like Fantastic Four will begin filming by mid-2023 at the latest. This means that Marvel is likely knee-deep in casting the movie and fleshing out the behind-the-scenes talent roster. When those announcements could come remains to be seen and D23, which takes place in September, could be too soon. Regardless, as the next few years of Marvel's slate becomes clear, the Fantastic Four will be more important than ever.
