The winners of the 80th Golden Globe Awards have been announced. The awards ceremony, which is typically viewed as a good predictor of what films will be receiving love at the Academy Awards, has returned to the air after not being televised in 2021. This was the result of a series of controversies swirling around the awards body, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. After it came to light that the group severely lacked diversity (in addition to allegations that members were accepting lavish trips or other rewards in exchange for certain titles receiving recognition), the organization took steps to internally address these issues.
The 80th Golden Globe Awards began airing Tuesday night on NBC at 8:00 PM EST with comedian Jerrod Carmichael taking the mic as host. The list of nominees includes 27 different categories celebrating the best of 2022 in both film and television. Leading the film nominations this year is the Martin McDonagh comedy The Banshees of Inisherin with eight nominations, nearly matched by the leading TV program, ABC's hit sitcom Abbott Elementary.
