Brazil’s Federal Revenue Office in Foz do Iguacu has announced that 22,000 pay-TV decoders, seized in November, on the contraband routes of Parana, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso, will be destroyed, reports EM. Throughout 2017, the Federal Revenue Service of Foz do Iguacu has seized 86,500 pirated decoders. In the last five years, the total of clandestine equipment seized has already surpassed 163,000 units.

In 2015, the Brazilian Pay Television Association (ABTA) and the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil signed a cooperation agreement to destroy illegal pay-TV decoders that are seized in the southern region of Brazil, in all routes of entry of these clandestine products in the country. According to ABTA estimates, Brazil loses BRL 6 billion annually with pay-TV piracy, which threatens thousands of jobs in the audiovisual industry in Brazil.
