Madurai: A special police team confiscated around 800 pirated CDs of newly-released films including actor Vijay's 'Mersal, from a shop in Chinna Chokkikulam here on Monday. The shopkeeper from South Gate was also arrested in connection with the crime.

Sleuths attached with the Intellectual Property Right Enforcement Cell (IPREC), which was earlier known as video piracy cell, busted the shop based on a tip off. The accused was identified as R Saddam Hussain, 26, from South Gate. He was produced before a judicial magistrate after the arrest. Police sources that the shopkeeper had displayed only MP3 CDs and old films, while keeping the pirated CDs secretly. He had been cautious in selling the CDs for less than Rs 50 only to his reliable customers. The team recently received reliable information, conducted a search and seized the CDs. He was also inquired about the source from which he used to procure the pirated CDs.
