Tips to prevent downloading torrents destroy your HD
It may seem like overkill , but the amount of reads and writes in HD while downloading torrents can be devastating
The HD (hard drive ) of the computer , like any machine , it has its useful life ; which may be higher or lower , depending on the use made of it . Of course there are some random factors that can spoil even a new device , such as power surges and even failures in manufacturing . Even so , the more you use the faster the machine will deteriorate .
One of the most harmful activities for HDs is file sharing , particularly via torrent . For while you download a file , it is sharing thousands of parts and other directly from the hard drive . All this transfer just reflected in thousands of read and write operations on the device .
Unfortunately, wear is inevitable, but neither is it necessary to stop downloading and sharing files . Just use some strategies to reduce the operations of reading and recording HD . This issue explains how uTorrent ( uTorrent / mTorrent ) In Gold At weekly ranking Portuguese help with this problem and indicates an online service that transforms downloading torrents into something resembling conventional direct downloads M5wvXGX.jpg
Like uTorrent can save HD
The trick uTorrent (uTorrent / mTorrent) In Portuguese Gold On the weekly ranking is to use a feature that brings the program itself, and since installation is enabled, which is the "Disk Cache". This technique reserve space in RAM PC memory to store parts of files received and sent over. Thus, it reduces the need to directly access the HD. Do not worry, because the memory is really designed for this large amount of access, with thousands of reads and writes per second.
The tool manages the disk cache alone, and below are some tips to achieve a more effective protection of HD. A good option for computers with enough available memory (4GB or more).
1. Click on "Options" in uTorrent (uTorrent / mTorrent) In Portuguese Gold At weekly ranking menu. Then choose the "Preferences" item. 4XuG3CO.jpg
Continue to the item "Advanced", select the "Disk Cache" option. G0anMht.jpg
Right now, your uTorrent is with the default settings, as well as in the image below. VHfopCZ.jpg
Check out the meaning of each cache ( below) or skip the setup options in step 5 .
****Set cache size manually : by checking the box you can choose the amount of memory ( in MB ) allocated to handle the torrents . With the option deselected , uTorrent automatically manage ;
****Reduce memory usage when the cache is not used uTorrent consumes less memory , unnecessary when considering their use;
****Enable write caching : placeholder in memory for recording information in HD ( download files ) ;
********Write modified cache every 2 minutes reduces the memory consumption of uTorrent , passing the data to the HD every 2 minutes ;
********Recording parts terminated immediately cache : when finalizing parts of Downloads as switches to HD . Another measure to reduce the memory consumption ;
****Enable read cache : placeholder in memory to read information from HD ( uploaded files ) ;
********Disconnect read if the upload speed is low : disable caching for slower connections , the upload operation . A measure relative and somewhat controversial because still would access thousands of pieces of files per second ;
********Remove old blocks from the cache : once a part is not accessed (for upload ) , it is removed from the reserved area of memory . Measure to save memory , but increases disk access ;
********Increasing the cache size for each cache cleaning : reserve more memory when the current space no longer gives more account. This option only works when the " Set cache size manually " is unchecked ;
****Disable write cache : disable write caching on the disk of Windows. Prevents the system from using uTorrent and cache the same time (could cause slowdowns ) ;
****Disable read cache : disables the read cache in Windows disk . Prevents the system from using uTorrent and cache the same time (could cause slowdowns ) ;
Warning: Past settings below will cause the uTorrent use a lot of memory on the machine . Use it only when you are not with programs and games running heavy . Ideal for those who leave the PC doing downloads overnight .
. Set the cache size as the amount of memory you have on your PC. Do not forget to check the box " Set the cache size ... " before selecting the value . If you have 4GB or more of memory , leave the value to 1800 MB ( the maximum supported by the tool yet) ; otherwise leave the value at most 512 MB not to disrupt the operating system .
Clear the following options . :
****Reduce memory usage when cache is not needed : thus the area of memory is always reserved ;
****Recording parts cache terminated immediately : as the option to record blocks every 2 minutes is still enabled , no need to record each part when it's ready ;
****Disconnect read if the upload speed is low : even with low upload speed , we can avoid unnecessary reading of the same part repeatedly in HD ;
****Remove old blocks from the cache : with a good amount of reserved memory , we can leave the uTorrent delete data from the cache , as others receive more reading.
. It's good to test several configurations, always seeking the best according to the PC you have and how much you often download torrent. If you notice any problems, just return the settings to default, displayed in step
