Many people resort to creating weak passwords because they are easier to remember and also faster to type out when you are trying to login, but this in turn makes their accounts at risk from being hacked as the passwords are not strong enough to protect the accounts.
But what many people don’t realize yet, is there is a solution for this problem which are password managers that are used to store your passwords for you on an encrypted database and it can be accessed by several methods you can choose from at your own leisure for example you can set a master password that you’d use to login to your password manager which will contain all your other passwords, when you use this you only need to remember and memorize only 1 password.
Another method is to use a USB Flash Drive to authenticate your identity and unlock your password manager with it, which means when you want to login to your password manager all you need to do is place the USB Flash Drive in your computer’s USB port and it should unlock your database for you to use.
It also enables you to generate a random password based on a criteria you put for it(for example: password length, uppercase and lowercase, numbers, special characters [@#$%&*^/?:] etc)
This makes it generate a very strong random password that is almost impossible to guess
For example: rRH2lt@9N^3qYD*vMI8%xG6zo&TLe1a
There are several apps out there that do this for you but what I personally use is ‘Sticky Password’, I’ve been using it for several years now and I’m very satisfied with it, and it’s very simple and easy to use.
I also forgot to mention that you don’t have to copy your passwords from your password manager to the login fields or anything like that. Nope, these apps come with browser plugins that automatically fills the login/password fields for you without you even doing anything, all you have to do is click login.
This particular feature makes it easier and faster for you to login at the same time provides you with extra security as you don’t have to type your password out manually which could be intercepted if you have a keylogger or a Trojan installed on your computer (but that’s another story, you should make sure you have a nice up to date antivirus to begin with!)
You can also select the bit strength and type of encryption you wish your database to be encrypted with from the settings.
You can also store secure memos in these applications, its like notepad but its stored securely with your password, so only you can see it.
There are also something like 'RoboForm' that does the same job as Sticky Password, I think it does have some other features too but I'm not sure since I personally haven't used it so I don't know but I hear its great as well.
One important thing to note though when you use either is make sure you use the offline version, make sure you store your database on your computer and not online/on the cloud, because these might get attacked by hackers so better to have your database stored on your computer for extra safety but of course make sure your PC is secure and virus-free to begin with!
TL;DR Version: Download either Sticky Password or RoboForm, and make an offline database to store your passwords in and use the password generator feature to generate a strong password, and to automatically fill your login info to websites!
Make sure to generate a different password for every website, forum, email etc every site should have a different password!
