Ukraine conducted a test of a ground-launched cruise missile. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov told about this.

According to him, the rocket "is capable of accurately damaging land and sea targets."

Turchynov noted that this is a completely Ukrainian development, which is carried out by the designers of the state enterprise Luch in cooperation with other state and private companies.

He added that the agency also set the task of developing complexes of cruise missiles of sea and air basing.

The NSDC secretary noted that the development and testing of these missiles are completely legal. "The range of our cruise missiles and their combat equipment do not contradict the international agreements signed by Ukraine for this type of weapon," the ministry's press service quotes him.

"It does not represent anything"

Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences (RARAN), Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov doubted that we are talking about strategic cruise missiles.

According to him, Ukraine could test a short-range missile that "does not represent anything."

The expert suggested that Kiev used the P-120 anti-ship missile, or developed "something new, but based on the same anti-ship missiles, or air-to-ground missiles, for example, the X-65 type."

"Classic cruise missiles like the American Tomahawks or the Russian Calibers were never produced in Ukraine - neither in the Soviet era nor, even more so, later." There were not produced any proper engines capable of holding long-range rocket missiles, nor systems Therefore, they could not create a rocket similar to the "Caliber", "said the expert on Sputnik radio.

Test of the "Pechora"

These are not the first such tests in Ukraine lately. In mid-January, Radionics, together with the already mentioned design bureau Luch, launched a missile from the renewed S-125 M anti-aircraft missile system (Pechora). Launch video was posted by the CB Press Service on Facebook.

In the explanation to the clip it is said that with the SAM launched a modernized missile 5V27D-M2 with active radar homing head. "At the initial stage, it moves along an aeroballistic trajectory, such a missile flight substantially increases the far boundary of the zone of destruction of the C-125M SAM," the KB noted.

According to the report, the range of the SAM defect is now 40 kilometers, and the maximum height of targets can reach 25 kilometers.
The S-125 air defense system with the export name Pechora was developed in 1961, the modernization of the S-125 M appeared in 1970. The boundary of the affected zone in the first modifications of the complex did not exceed 22 kilometers. In Russia, the complex was withdrawn from the arsenal in the mid-1990s.
