Two people found dead on railway tracks at Hackney Wick after being electrocuted
TWO people were found dead on London railway tracks this morning after being electrocuted.
The pair were found separately between Hackney Wick and Stratford - after cops were called to two reports of casualties.
Police rushed to the overground line at about 1am and found a person dead on the tracks.
They were called again just after 2.30am to a similar report, and found a second casualty nearer to Stratford.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Firefighters and paramedics were also called to the scene where a person was pronounced dead after sustaining serious injuries consistent with electrocution.”
The second person killed had also died from electrocution, BTP said.
Cops are now trying to identify the people who died and inform their families.
DCI Tim Tubbs from the British Transport Police said: “An investigation is now underway to discover what happened and how these two people came to lose their lives on the railway.
“At this time we are treating their deaths as unexplained as we make a number of urgent enquiries.
“I would ask anyone who was near Stratford or Hackney Wick last night, and saw something which they think might be relevant, to contact us as soon as possible.”
GRAFFITI TRACK DEATHS
Last year two 23-year-olds and a 19-year-old were found dead on railway tracks near Loughborough Station, south London.
It is unclear why the pair killed this morning were on the tracks, as police probe why they came to be found there.
In June last year graffiti artists Alberto Fresneda Carrasco, Jack Gilbert and Harrison Scott-Hood were killed last year as they walked down the tracks.
Speaking before an inquest into their deaths in February, their families gave a joint statement defending graffiti - saying it was an "amazing art form".
They said: "In a time full of needless violence, if our sons were guilty of anything, it was their love for painting.
"We can only express to young people trying to make their mark, to please be safe. Keep your creativity alive - but don't risk your lives."
