Social media platform Instagram is working on a new method for authentication.

Fake profiles and spam posts are a headache for Instagram and all other social media outlets. Wanting to limit such spam and fake accounts, Instagram will now require users to take video selfies to verify their identity.

The company started using the selfie video method for the user identity verification system revealed by social media expert Matt Navarra. Meta (Facebook), the roof company, promises that uploaded selfie videos will not be shared on Instagram, will not collect biometric data and will not be used for facial recognition technology. The system will only use it to reach a conclusion by testing whether the person is the right person with various algorithms.

The video selfie verification method is something Instagram has been working on for a while. The feature first appeared in August, but was delayed due to many technical issues.

It has also been stated that the new feature will only be valid for newly created accounts, and the verification process will work with the addition of a few selfie photos from different angles instead of the video.

So, do you trust Meta (Facebook), which has been criticized for constantly collecting biometric data? We welcome your comments on the subject.
