A man who once fought for the terrorist group Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) in Syria was killed in a forest countryside area the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia, the National Antiterrorism Committee reported. He and another militant were encircled by law enforcement and chose to fight back with assault rifles rather than being arrested. After both were killed, the FSB found grenades and IEDs on their bodies along with firearms.

Moscow. 10 February. INTERFAX.RU - The location of the militants neutralized during the counter-terrorist operation in the Nazran district of Ingushetia was established thanks to timely information from local residents, an informed source told Interfax.

"A few days ago, law enforcement agencies received prompt information from vigilant citizens that several people in camouflage were seen in the outskirts of the village of Ali-Yurt in the evening," the source said.

Based on this information, the operational headquarters decided to introduce a legal regime for the counter-terrorist operation in the Nazran region of the republic. The siloviki deployed special forces to conduct operational search and ambush operations.

At about 10:00 the special forces found movement in the forest - as a result, two armed men in camouflage were blocked, stealthily moving around the area.

On the demand of law enforcement officers to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities, they opened fire from automatic weapons. In the course of a fleeting battle, both criminals were neutralized.

As reported by the National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC), one of them was on the federal wanted list in connection with participation in hostilities on the side of the international terrorist organization IGIL (banned in the Russian Federation). Two automatic weapons, two ready-to-use improvised explosive devices, components for manufacturing improvised explosive devices, ammunition, grenades and special equipment were found at the scene.
