A tweet by Discord CEO and founder Jason Citron pointed out that cryptocurrencies and NFTs will be integrated into the platform, which angered many people.

NFTs, one of the rapidly rising technology trends of the last period, have entered the radar of many technology-oriented companies. While many big game companies have signaled that they will develop games involving crypto money and NFT, it turned out that one of the companies that is likely to make a move in this area is Discord.

According to the news shared by PC Gamer, Discord CEO and founder Jason Citron signaled that they are preparing to introduce new features that support users who buy and own NFT with various cryptocurrencies in a post on Twitter. In addition, a survey conducted by Discord in the past months points to this.

The survey, which was reportedly sent to some Discord users in early August, asked users how familiar they were with NFTs, DeFi (decentralized finance), and Web3 (the term that describes a completely decentralized internet). The survey resurfaced on Twitter this week, sparking controversy over whether Discord plans to integrate cryptocurrencies and NFTs into its platform, as Reddit and Twitter have already done.

Discord CEO Jason Citron tweeted a screenshot showing an as-yet unreleased Discord integration for two cryptocurrency wallet apps. Citron shared this tweet to respond to another user who shared an article that featured Discord as a valuable place for cryptocurrencies and NFTs. This screenshot shared by Citron showed that Discord would soon allow users to connect their accounts with Ethereum wallet app MetaMask and public cryptocurrency wallet app WalletConnect.

Many users who commented under the Discord subheading on Reddit, and many on Twitter, responded harshly to this news. New and popular posts in the Discord sub-topic on Reddit are extremely important on the speculative status and environmental impact of NFTs. In one of the popular posts here, Discord developers were addressed directly and asked not to support NFTs. In other Reddit posts and tweets on the subject, users were asked to cancel their Discord Nitro subscriptions or request a refund.
