    Lightbulb WEB-DL or Blu-ray??

    Hello friends,

So Digital HD and Blu-rays are releasing on the same day nowadays.
I have seen that WEB-DLs make their way to torrent sites earlier than a 1080/720p Blu-ray rips. So what do you prefer between these two?

    A: WEB-DL
    B: Blu-ray Rip

    Let the ball roll now....

IMO, web-dl is good for fast release or some people who can't wait any longer (lol) and blu-ray is good if you really into better quality and bitrate.

If you will watch on a low size monitor, WEB-DL is just fine for you. If you have a good tv, and you apreciate a nice bitrate video, go for blu-ray

WEB-DL is good if you just want to try out a movie/tv show. If I like it, I'll go and download the BR

@CBL - The Quality on BDs is slighty better, but to be honest its not really worse the bigger filesize, you are probably should go for the WebDL, if you don't need the BD for encoding.

And make sure its WebDL and not WebRip, webrips are espacially useless when the resolution isn't changed, while ok for SD size.

Maybe it also matters if you collect some formats - but if you want good filesize/quality WebDL is very recommednable, mabe can be toped by very good BD rips, while often losing compatibility with other dives then PC.

@Axort, good comment on WEBDL and WEBRips. I would recommend everyone to go for WEBDL, if they have to choose between WEBDL and WEBRips. But personally, I would prefer 1080p blu-rays because I like to see details on my 4K TV. And as the 4K content is on its way to regular users, will definitely go for 4K, no 1080P.

@CBL - for upscaling to 4k, BDs might be more recommendable, but still it won't make a real difference to the eyes, well might depending on the size of the TV, but nearly all of the dropped information on lower bitrates are the grainy elements for movies, and for Anime encoding probably will help more to reduce artefacts then taking away real visible detail information, while WebDLs are also not really common for Anime anway.

In the end its just the questions if youw ant to store all that big sized BDs, for collectors its without question the way to go, but if you are just looking for HD entertainment Movies and TV you can simply store a lot more content while still having very enjoybale quality - i personally would even say WebDLs are still to big, but of yourse it changes for content as well as the needed bitrates for quality.

Blu Ray rips tend to use a higher bitrate and therefore higher file size. Good for watching on large TVs, good quality screens, collections, etc.

WEB-DLs are smaller sized and usually use a lower bitrate, but for your average viewing is just fine. WEB-DL is still a blu-ray rip (or whatever the source was), it's just at a lower bitrate, but usually optimized or from a real HQ source so when it's in its final compressed "ripped" form, it still looks decent. Also, WEB-DL denotes that it's a "commercially sourced" compressed video file, for lack of a better term.

If one ever bought a blu ray movie which included a "digital copy" of the movie--that "digital copy" this would be the equivalent to WEB-DL.
