Men accused in teenage girl carjacking laugh in court
TWO men accused of a violent carjacking which caused a teenage girl’s shocking face injuries when she was dragged 50 metres along a road have laughed in court as they faced charges.
Damien Grimsey, 23, and Eddie Wells, 30, giggled and chatted during a Melbourne Magistrates court hearing on charges of stealing 18-year-old Taylor Hall’s car three months ago, Nine news reported.
The younger accused also yelled out to the female magistrate during Thursday’s hearing and tried to give her advice.
Taylor Hall was in her Renault convertible in the southeast Melbourne suburb of Frankston on January 22 when two men allegedly tried to steal it during a police pursuit.
When Ms Taylor tried to rescue her eight-month-old pup, Luna, from the back seat of the car she was dragged along the road by the carjackers.
She was flung from the vehicle when it struck a kerb, her face smacking into the concrete.
Ms Hall, who suffered facial and leg wounds and required plastic surgery, said later in hospital the incident had happened “out of the blue”.
“They just jumped straight into our car, yelling at us to get out of the vehicle,” she told the Herald Sun.
“I didn’t think about the danger to myself until after I knew Luna was OK.
Nine news reported that Mr Grimsey and Mr Wells shook hands as they entered the dock on Thursday to face charges for which the court heard there were 60 witnesses.
Mr Grimsey yelled at the magistrate, “we need the right legal advice, but Miss” and said audibly “f***, the way it’s going, we’ll be doing ten years with you as a magistrate.”
The magistrate responded, “it’s never helpful when you just start speaking to the magistrate”, to which Mr Grimsey said, “I speak my mind but”.
The accused are expected to return to court next month.
