UK police release CCTV footage of gunman opening fire at passing car
POLICE in London have released CCTV footage of an attempted murder bid in which a masked gunman opens fire on a woman driving to work.
Labelled by detectives as ‘an outrageous and brazen attack’ the man can be seen taking shots at a passing car in the borough of Brent about 8.40am on Monday.
Officers and firearms teams attended the scene, along with a specialist police dog, to speak to the 51-year-old victim and close off the road.
Footage shows the driver’s window smash from the onslaught but one of the bullets caused the passenger window to shatter too. Remarkably the victim was not injured.
The suspect then ran down the road before getting into an unknown vehicle. Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Trident and Area Crime Command are investigating.
Speaking after the release of the footage, lead investigator Detective Inspector Tom Williams said the incident would likely traumatise the victim for a long time.
“This was an outrageous and brazen attack that happened in the middle of rush hour on a Monday morning, in which luckily, no one was injured,” he said.
“Firearms have absolutely no place on London’s streets and we are carrying out a full and thorough investigation into locating this man and making sure that he appears before the courts.
“On this occasion, no one was physically harmed, but no doubt the traumatic experience will affect the victim for years to come.”
